Super Mario Country
preview
By: DJ Coco [E] [W]
Hello, MFGG! I think I have started working on this game some time after I put The Next Levels on ice... so its origins date way back to ancient times as well. But just like The Next Levels, I just couldn't let this project die! Demotivated to work on every other project I looked through my folder of projects on ice and found this gem lying around. I knew I had to finish this. I got motivated again and eventually finished it - and here it is: Super Mario Country - a Gameboy-styled Super Mario Land 2 fangame! The game doesn't feature any collectibles but has lots of cool little secrets in the levels for you to find. The game initially started out as a simple SML fangame with a few levels in the graphical style of SML2, but with the addition of a world map and a lot more it quickly became a lot bigger than planned at first! Enjoy!

DamariomanII Not a bad game, but if you can't get used to the wonky physics, then you'll have a bad time with the game. 5 / 10
MikeyStar This game looks great, but it has to FEEL great, y'know? 7 / 10
Sr.Wario It looks like a Game Boy game. It sounds like a Game Boy game. The feel is there.

But the physics are bad and it REALLY brings the game down. For fans of Super Mario Land 2 I'd reccommend for the style, but besides that it's not worth it.
6 / 10
Q-Nova Need to go on a nostalgia trip? Then this should be the trip for you! 8 / 10
CanofNothing A considerably well-made game that, although could have benefited from more polish and better design, is not a bad experience overall. 7 / 10
FibS A fine game suffering only from inconsistency in difficulty and the natural drawbacks of the GameBoy. 9 / 10
Nite Shadow If you love a game that makes you work to beat it, and I mean REALLY work for it, then this is the game for you. 9 / 10
~CaMtEnDo~ It's an alright game, but it needs a lot of work, spit and polish still before it's the best game it could be. Don't give up! 6 / 10
Mit I'd rather play Land 2 again. 4 / 10
VinnyVideo Some of the levels in Super Mario Country have a mean streak, but overall, you'll be glad that you booked a trip to Super Mario Country. 9 / 10
lu9 This is a very nice SML2 styled game, although there aren't too much new things, it is worth giving it a try. 8 / 10
RaymanFan1995 Not a bad game in general; the idea and potential is absolutely there. I think with just a few tweaks, twacks and twerks (NO, NOT THOSE KINDS OF TWERKS!!!), this game could be just about perfect. 8 / 10
Average Score 7.2 / 10

Hello! Did you extract all of the files? If so, are they in the same folder? If they are, this is a common GM bug when using sin-bass: You need to hit ignore until you can play without music or restart your computer. Sorry for the inconvenience caused, but I'm afraid there's not much I can do about it.

I picked this up because I'm a huge fan of the SML series (especially the first two games) and I think it's really well-made so far. I've only been to the first level of Bonsai World, first level of Canyon World and the first two of the Ice World which I never read the name of. Normally I finish a world when I start one but this game is unforgivingly hard it feels like and I just wanted to explore the other worlds after each game over.
It might just be the Z X controls which I can barely handle due to my non-english keyboard. Is there any way to change them?

Sorry, there is no way of changing the controls. But you can change your keyboard to the English layout, so you have the run and jump keys next to eachother.

The game is quite great though mario's animation is a bit weird and the game is quite slow (unless it's my laptop).

This game is excellent, but I can't get very far. Could you add an option to set controls, or make it so that "Shift" and "Control" work also? Because my keyboard (and I imagine this applies to others, too) does not allow me to hit "X" while holding "Z" and left at the same time: thus I cannot run and jump to the left, which is frequently necessary.

Not bad, but there's certainly some potential for improvement. Expect a review soon.

Nicely done. Interesting choice for the Invincibility Theme.

Have only completed the Beach but will be sure to play as much of it as I am capable.

There's an 8-bit remix of You Spin Me Round for the Starman song? Where did you even find such a thing?

Honestly, my least favorite part of this game is the limited lives thing. Really, I think it's only there in the modern Mario games for tradition's sake. In arcades, it was to sap all your coins, but that doesn't happen in non-arcade games, making it pointless and annoying. Also, I'd really appreciate a way to change the controls, and the ability to kill the urchins with fireballs, which I think just makes sense.

Triggered when two koopa shells were initially kicked at the same time. They may have somehow been colliding before being kicked.

8 year old game, thought this might help someone else not to get bugged.
