Gameplay
9 / 10
Inbetween chapters in Paper Mario 2, you play as Bowser in a 2D game recapturing the spirit of the old NES Mario platformers. Paper Bowser World aims to capture that same feeling and presentation, and by god it shoots off with flying colors. Where do I begin?

If you've played those parts of Paper Mario 2 before, you'll know almost exactly what to expect from playing this game. The premise is that you are Bowser, and you are trying to stop Peach from leaving for a vacation because you won't get to capture her for two whole weeks. You have the option of playing as bowser or Kammy, each with their own platforming styles.

Once you start the game as Bowser, you hop into the role of the badass Koopa King who has infinite lives and can breathe fire to fry enemies, as well as destroy blocks and pipes. The engine is remarkable yet simple, and I found no glitches at all during my play.

The best part is that instead of one level at a time after chapters in Paper Mario 2, you keep doing this for 16 levels modelled after SMB stages, down to the castle stages on every 4th stage! Some would argue repetitiveness, but this game mixes things up so much that it is new all the time. You have castle stages, underground stages, even the cheep-cheeps-flying-over-the-bridge stages.

The only drawback is that this game lacks the powerup that turns you gigantic and lets you walk across the stage destroying things by plowing into them, but that's understandable because the game is easy enough as it is.

Graphics
10 / 10
When I first started playing this game, I knew I was in for a treat. The graphics are all the Paper Mario 2 rips that were ripped by Retriever II. They were presented and used flawlessly. This might sound like it's a lot of sucking up, but I honestly enjoyed every second of the look of this game. When you play so many games with sprites, something like this is like a shot of awesome into the arm. The collision detection is perfect, the graphics fit and weren't choppy, I honestly can't think of a bad aspect of the graphics usage in this game.

Sound
9 / 10
The sound is very very rich. I've never been a fan of mp3 music in games, but this game almost begs using it. It's all songs from Paper Mario 2 and sounds from Paper Mario 1 and 2, and they're used to near perfection to capture the audial atmosphere of the game it's attempting to recreate.

Replay
8 / 10
A load more replay than most fangames. Even though I beat Bowser's story, I still have to fully beat Kammy's story. Additionally, I've heard there is also a hidden "Minus world" somewhere in the game... secrets are abound!

Final Words
10 / 10
The presentation, the feel, the setting, the compelling nature of it... I enjoyed this game enough to give it my first perfect 10. It's that rich. Bravo!

Thanks for that fantastic review! The only thing is, I did not use Retriever II's PM2 graphics. All of the graphics are custom. Still, thanks a ton for the great review!!
