Luigi Land: the Bootleg Invasion
preview
By: Cap'n Coconuts [W]
Trouble's brewing in Sarasaland again! Mario travels there to put a stop to the chaos but gets captured for his troubles. Luigi, not taking any chances, has E. Gadd upgrade the Sky Pop and flies it into Sarasaland, embarking on a challenging journey (depending on your difficulty setting) to save both Princess Daisy and his brother.

This is an entry to the 2014's 2nd Minigame Competition: Game Boy *Enhanced*. The idea was to make a Game Boy game with a limited palette provided by the Game Boy Color or the Super Game Boy. This is why this game uses very few colors and why it only has one level. A couple of bug fixes have been made since competition voting started, but basically this is the same game as the submitted entry.

UPDATE: Version 1.1 is now live, with plenty of tweaks and balance fixes! See the README for more information.
Completion: Full Game Genre: Shoot 'em Up
Franchise: Mario

Sorry, no review for this game. Even on "novice" it's still the same --hard as f***. And the screen size doesn't make it any better.
With this difficulty, it's really hard to enjoy the game and give it a full playthrough+ review.

Graphics and music is nice though.

No, there are some significant differences between the difficulties. I think the problem here is that you haven't played a shoot-em-up before and your natural instinct is to panic when a Gao fires a 3-way shot at you. You need to practice carefully dodging whatever enemies throw at you. Precise movement is key.

That said, some rebalancing is in order. A bit of dynamic difficulty based on your number of options will be added (which will make recovery somewhat easier). Triple shot will be replaced with Double so JudgeSpear here can't kill the boss in seconds by carefully point-blanking it. Scoring may be adjusted somewhat.

I played a few, I just don't care for them. I'm just not good at this one. It's been a while since I really digested one. May take a look at it again later.

Cap'n I think Syr has a point it may be to hard,
but it's fun! One question, can you make a new powerups of your game. just asking question.

Not in this minigame edition, I'm afraid. I consider the minigame "complete" and therefore the only things that will be added from henceforth are bugfixes, rebalancing, and usability features (e.g. the window size/full screen mode JudgeSpear asked for).

There's a weird glitch where occasionally if you get a game over, the game won't let you restart. It just kinda sits on the screen you died in and no button presses can change it.

Hmm. Could you see if there's a way to replicate it? It's not good to leave a glitch in the game but it's hard to do anything about it if I don't have the slightest clue what is causing it.

Version 1.1 was uploaded to the queue. It seems to be taking some time to pass through QC, though...

I agree, kirbywrap3, and there is a review, Syr, there's no reason to rage about the difficulty that much, is there? I'd never even think of saying something like that. Very nice game, Cap'n. I like it a lot.

It's just... How. The music is great. The graphics and gameplay are great. Obviously, the replay would be great. If I was to add a review, I'd want to beat it first.

No, the problem here is that not everyone is good at shooting games, and you act as though those who are not are completely inferior to you. Just because he/she finds your game challenging does not give you the right to be an ***hole.

You seem to be awfully late to the party, as I have already added the Casual difficulty in version 1.1 specifically to cater to those who aren't good at SHMUPs. The reason I replied to Syr in that way is because I got the impression he was implying blame on me for not making an easy game (his first draft of his SMF:R review didn't help that impression), but given that I offered advice and was willing to admit that the game needed rebalancing, I don't see how I'm being an entitled a-hole.

If you find an actual problem with my comment, why don't you report it instead of going into White Knight mode over a disagreement that should now be completely irrelevant?

@Cap'n Coconuts:

1) My point is, you could've written your comment with a more friendly tone; "assumptions just make an ass out of you and me", as the old saying goes*. How is someone putting blame on you if all they say is that it's "f***ing hard"? That's just a simple statement and opinion; there is no need to get defensive over it.

1.5) His original review is irrelevant; the reply of yours that I'm referring to was based on a simple comment alone. Had you written that comment on his original review, I would've been more accepting with your choice of words.

2) The reason I "White Knighted" (as you put it) is because I was hoping I could get you to see the words you used the way I see them. Reporting it, at the time, seemed counter-productive, but if that's what you want me to do, then from now on, I will.

*("You" and "me", in this case, being Syr and yourself, respectively.)

I'm not mad. All I'm saying is, he could've worded that comment to sound a bit friendlier. If you bothered to read the comments, you'd know what I'm talking about.
