This is my first upload to this site. I am thrilled to give you the first demo for Super Mario Starshine. This game has three, fully completed, levels for you to enjoy. It is important to note that if this game gets enough positive feedback, I will continue work on it till it is fully complete. Right now, I am just testing the waters :)

I understand if this is just first time development... but WOW!
You need to make some MAJOR improvements for this to be actually good!
I'm sorry for being mean but geez man! Work on those physics and controls! They SUCK!
As well as making the levels have more decor they seem so plain...
Also why do the level names just say: "<Insert name here> Star" like really?... Come on man be more creative.

Also I'm not saying this is stolen but it is so similar to my concept SMM: Power Star Frenzy... Power Stars in 2D platforming... the open world map... meh whatever but if you want this to be good. You really need to change things up.

I know those have been done before. :P Tons of them in fact I just meant the open world system seems so similar to mine. :P

I actually think this has potential, at least you made your own engine, it shows that you've actually put some ammount of effort into your game and it gives the game some soul + charm.

(This game is >better< because its not a soulless shell of a hello clone)

It still needs some work, but seeing as it is your first upload, you have plenty of time to improve!

The game only has walking around and entering levels... there is nothing really unique about that you could have patented :P

At least a Hello Clone works. Having an original engine does not make your game inherently better if the quality between the two engines is incomparable.

Where do I even... START... with this game?

First of all, the controls. They're stiff and awkward and Mario has super-friction on every surface and he jumps facing right even though I was facing left when I pressed the up key.
...Oh yeah, and UP IS THE JUMP BUTTON!!
Have you ever watched an AVGN video in your life? If you had, you'd know that UP is a terrible jump button choice.
And on the subject of the controls themselves... they're all over the damn place. Up to jump, arrow keys to move, SPACEBAR to shoot fireballs, ENTER to confirm options and SHIFT to pause?? It might help to play a single other game on this site before you create your own. Might give you some hints.

Second, the overworld map is bland as all hell. I mean, really. A few more trees, some hills, Peach's Castle, a Toad's House, something for decoration? I know it's a demo, but you rarely lose points for effort.

Third, the graphics go together about as well as peanut butter and an old shoe. From small things like, "Why do we have SMB3 Mario on the overworld map but SMW Mario is who we control in each level?" to, "WHY IS 8-BIT MARIO EVERYWHERE??" And aside from that, the graphics themselves are all stretched out, and that bland, flat-colored coin collection bar is pissing me off. And don't get me started on that crappy Animation Shop endless loop of Mario spinning into oblivion when he dies.

And the third point here is everything else. Every single thing. The hitboxes being laughably off-center, fireballs glitching up and sticking to walls, taking damage if I try to jump on more than one enemy at once (which WILL happen), the lack of variety in the tilesets that makes THIS (http://tinyurl.com/qgv2r3o) happen, and that second jump across the Koopa Paratroopas in the second level that is absolutely, positively impossible to make no matter how many times I try.

Take this game, tear it to pixelated bits, and start over.
