General Commentary and Game Overview
Whomp's Revenge is a quirky and nostalgic fangame where you take control of the Whomp from Super Mario 64, trying to crush Mario in an underground area inspired by the original Mario Bros arcade game. Created in just 10 days, it’s a bite-sized, fun experience that delivers a unique twist by letting you play as a flong-forgotten villain for once. The game is simple, easy to pick up, and surprisingly charming, making it a delightful way to relive some old-school Mario vibes in a new setting.

Pros + Charming and nostalgic — There’s something irresistibly cute about Whomp's Revenge. The graphics, sound, and gameplay all carry that old-school DS-era vibe that immediately transports you back to the heyday of handheld Mario games.
+ Hilarious sound design — Wario's "Here I go!" and Mario’s "Mario’s the Winner!" are absolute gold, instantly putting a smile on your face every time they play. It’s playful and adds so much personality to the game.
+ Super fun and easy to pick up — This is a game you can jump into without much thought. It’s a stress-free experience, perfect for a short gaming session when you don’t feel like getting bogged down by something too complex.
+ Impressive for a 10-day game — Given that this was made in just 10 days, it's pretty amazing how polished it feels. It might not be groundbreaking, but the attention to detail and how well everything fits together is impressive.
+ Role reversal — How often do you get to control a Whomp? It's a total blast to be the one trying to squash Mario for once instead of running from the big guy.
+ Controller support is solid — If you’ve got a controller, the game works perfectly with it, making the gameplay even more comfortable and enjoyable.
+ Great font and logo — The font has a great DS-era vibe, and the logo is sharp and fitting for the game. It just feels well thought-out.
Fantastic music and sound effects—The music fits perfectly with the whole underground theme, and the sound effects are nostalgic and make everything feel even more authentic to the Mario universe.

Cons - Just spam Wario for easy wins — There’s literally no reason not to just stand around and spam Wario’s ability when he’s ready to go. It feels like the game could have used a better progression system, maybe one based on the number of Mario's you’ve squashed.
- Endless Marios everywhere — There doesn’t seem to be any limit to how many Marios can appear on screen. It quickly devolves into a waiting game for Wario to do his thing, which feels a bit like stalling rather than engaging gameplay.
- Lacking variety — While the concept is great, the game feels a bit one-note after a while. More variety in enemies or maybe some Mario power-ups would have added some much-needed spice to the experience.
- Sound overload— Wario knocking out dozens of Marios at once is oddly satisfying, but the sound effect starts to layer itself over and over, which just becomes unpleasant. A bit of a tweak in the audio here would have gone a long way.
- Mario’s stuck — Sometimes Mario can get stuck during his ground pound, which is a bit odd to witness.
- Shallow overall — While Whomp's Revenge is fun for a short time, the gameplay doesn’t have much depth. You’ll get through it quickly, and it could’ve used more challenge or variety to keep you coming back.

Impressions
Gameplay
7 / 10
The gameplay is definitely fun at first, but it’s pretty simple and gets repetitive fast. The main appeal is the novelty of controlling Whomp and crushing Marios, but beyond that, there’s not much variety. The lack of a more dynamic progression system (like different enemies or moves) makes the experience feel more like waiting for things to happen rather than actively engaging with the game. Still, it’s fun for short bursts, just don’t expect to be hooked for hours.

Graphics
8 / 10
The graphics really hit that sweet spot of retro charm. It's clear that Clobbah drew heavy inspiration from the DS-era Mario games, with an art style that’s clean and nostalgic. Everything fits the theme of an underground Mario world, and the art style feels unique and absolutely perfect in a fangame. It's nothing absolutely groundbreaking, but it's certainly charming and pleasant to look at.

Sound
8 / 10
The audio is definitely one of the highlights. The sound design is super playful and nostalgic, with each character’s voice lines being a hilarious throwback. Wario’s “Here I go!” and Mario’s celebratory “Mario’s the Winner!” are just a joy to hear. That being said, when Wario knocks out dozens of Marios at once, the sound effect starts to layer over itself, becoming an ear-piercing mess. A little more variety in those sound cues would’ve kept the audio experience from feeling overwhelming.

Final Words
7 / 10
Whomp's Revenge is a fun and charming little fangame that brings a unique twist to the Mario universe. While it doesn’t have much depth and can get repetitive, it’s still an enjoyable experience for fans of the series, especially considering it was made in just 10 days. The sound design, controller support, and unique DS-style graphics are a huge plus, but the gameplay could use some fine-tuning. It’s a solid, lighthearted minigame that offers just the right amount of fun for a quick gaming sesh.
