"The first metroidvania Mario game"

You're so wrong about this. There's been loads of metroidvania Mario games posted on MFGG before this, including games like SMB: Mythical Mushrooms and Toad and the Ancient Keys.

k, fixed _

Still, it's probably the first Mario "igavania", if we go more in details.

Not to mention Super Mario XP II on this very website!

As someone who has played (and beaten) it, I can confirm that, no, it doesn't.

You didn't fix it, it still says it's the first of it's kind.

All I can say is.
This better not suck.

EDIT: NEVERMIND. I can't even start the game. It crashes as soon as the window pops up.
Well then.

I think the change is queued or something. I have definitely fixed it, it's not updated yet, somehow.

Well, rip. Your graphic card doesn't support OpenGL 2.0. You can either:
-Update your graphic driver
-Buy a new graphic card
-Try on different PC

You are right now the only person, who has this issue. Sorry.

Making it "The" Metroidvania Mario game is still kinda odd, considering it sounds like it's the only one of it's kind.

The Yak Smoker Jan 25 2017, 9:01 PM
This game is wonderful all for a couple of things.
First off there is barely any time for the hit invincibility thus killing you quicker, and this is most true in the waterway where you get immediately slaughtered by the cheep-cheeps in seconds. The enemy sprites in the waterway part are just stock images which doesn't fit in at all and looks like crap. Other than some fatal flaws the game is very well done!

That's... interesting. Looks like you have thumbs.db file, which game tries to load as an image. I have no idea how these files work, and I never had problem with one (ie. they didn't appear where they shouldn't).

Anyways, to fix this, go to the directory from the first line (data/gfx/enemies/chaos), check the "Hidden elements", located in View menu on top and delete the thumbs.db. The error might repeat for another directory so you need to remove all of these thumbs.db files. If it doesn't help (Windows will keep creating them), try this instruction: https://www.sitepoint.com/swit...-db-in-windows/
If THAT doesn't help, I'll have to make a patch _

I saw nothing. And yes, I had the "Hidden items" checkbox turned on.

Solve it like a hacker (lol)

Hold Shift and Right Click inside the directory -> Open command prompt here -> type "del thumbs.db" and press Enter.

If it doesn't help, and you tried the link I posted, I'll make a patch then.

It couldn't be found, and the link doesn't work because of the way the comment system shortens them.

Hey, I'm very interested in trying out Mariovania, but whenever I run Mariovania.exe, I get an error with the following:

Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.

I'm using Windows 8, by the way.

Nevermind then, here's the fix:
http://bit.ly/2jK6xNT

Unzip it into game's directory and replace files. Fixes also shader bug reported by rchammer97.

Are there any additional information than this? Either move the game to your user directory (desktop is fine) or try temporarily disabling anitivirus if the former doesn't help.

Thanks. It works now.

So... my antivirus software picked this up as Trojan, and I'm not sure why that is. It's not even giving me the option to just ignore it, I have to delete it as soon as my computer detects it. Any help please? I'm using AVG, if that helps.

AVG XD

There should be an option to add the file as exception, so it's ignored BEFORE you run it. If it's impossible, then you'd have to disable all protection (there should be such option too), run the game and enable antivirus again. Each time.

Or change AVG to something else. I don't know though which AV is the best. Personally I'm using Avast and it doesn't make problems like this. Usually.

Dang... well, thanks for the help! I personally use AVG, because it's always worked pretty effectively for me, but I may switch it sometime soon now.

This game is pretty fun and pretty long, especially if you go out of your way to collect the extra stuff power-ups.
My only faults with the game are some of the sprites of the enemies and how Mario looks. It sort of reminds me of Drawn to life, which isn't bad, but it sort of clashes with the rest of the game.
Otherwise good stuff.

As said in description, all graphics are going to be replaced in the future (some enemies, like Goombas or Spinys are already in the new style). This is why this game is still beta.

If someone is interested, here's a forum topic, where I'm posting some newest stuff and updates:
http://forums.mfgg.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=14897
There are some new Mario sprites too. Beta will not receive updates, aside from important hotfixes.

Eh, is this the whole error, or just part of it?

The only cause I can think of is that you placed the game in a directory named with some unicode chars (ą/ę// etc.), or that your username has such letters.

MasterMarioMX Mar 11 2017, 5:01 AM
It's part of it, And it's seems that it is because my user name use such unicode chars. When I compared the other one, The user has no unicode characters, but then I see the other PC, it does. Also, it seems to be a Ruby problem in general, looked with that specific part of the error, and it throw me a lot of programs I didn't know they existed, but they ALL have Ruby on it. But I haven't found a fix to it to fix the problem -.-

KoBeWi Mar 11 2017, 10:36 AM
Quote (MasterMarioMX on Mar 11 2017, 5:01 AM)
It's part of it
Then... um... if you could provide the whole error, so I know where it happens, I could maybe, like, do something about it >_>

Or you could locate it yourself and try this:
string.encode("utf-8")
with string being the text that causes error. Just give the full log if you can't fix it.

EDIT:
I found someone with similar problem. Hopefully I'll fix it for next update (see forums).
