Addressing abuse

The site has only been up for a short while, and it hasn't taken long for a few users to try abusing the new system. Abuse, such as repeatedly downloading submissions (hammering) to boost their ranking, is strictly prohibitted. Anyone caught doing this will lose their account and be IP banned at the site-level. Additionally, users whose actions are deemed malicious will be banned at the firewall level, and will lose access to any sites hosted under this server. |

Wait, we have a ranking system based on our number of downloads?

It's one of the available sorting methods.

I only download a file more than once if my internet jams, which happens quite a bit. I never abuse the downloads though.

You're comparing 2-3 against 7000

Would there be a way to make it only record downloads/views once per person per game

What about those who frequently abuse the download system that aren't registered with the site?

I wonder if that 7000+ downloads game is partially the reason for the huge bandwidth spike, due to it being 4MB

Given the latest stats I don't think the downloads actually got completed. However it creates sustained load on the server and skews the database.

I'm the maker of that game. And I'm going to say that I had nothing to do with whatever was going on.

You can still download a file more than once. This is only for grossly huge download amounts (say, downloading a game 150 times in a row).

Why would anyone download a game 100 times? =/

I can't post my sprites. Why?? When I click the Submit File, appears The Submission form, but when I click in that button to choose the submission type, it does nothing!! All that I can choose is a -!!! It happens to prevent downloadin my sprites more than 100 times?? Ah, when I click in my "Preferences" or "My Submissions", appears a white window saying that a fatal error ocurred. What I wave to do to put my sprites on it!?!?!

Funny how people just, uh, well, cheat. Infact you shouldn't be allowed to download your own games at all.

The only problem I see with this new setup is (and I'm not trying to spark an argument here) if a hacker decides to make trouble for you by hacking your account and downloading the same thing 1000 times, how does the real user get back?
