OK, complainin' time.

We've noticed a little problem as of late - thumbnails that are, to be polite, eyesores. So I just want to give some advice:

1.) Please refrain from doing the dumb "1000+ DOWNS LAWL" thing. It will happen to everyone eventually, and it just clogs the queue up.

2.) NO ANIMATED THUMBNAILS. EVER EVER EVER. WE WILL REPLACE THEM.

I recommend making your sprite thumbnails be an example of them being used in a game level, like the game thumbnails.

And now, the update:

I only put an 1000 downloads on my SMK customs sheet, but that was accompanied by a quality update.

...and also, try and keep thumbnails at 100x100 pixels in size. Although it's not completely neccessary, it looks a lot nicer.

But what about EdpR's sprites? Most of his thumbnails are animated, but there aren't many Luigi's Mansion sprites around here....

I don't know what has happened in the past, but there's been rumblings of annoyance from the other guys, so I'm personally putting my foot down.

I'm personally not too annoyed with animated thumbnails. If you do upload an animated thumbnail, make sure it fully displays something like a walking sprite or a similar animation.
But that might not be a guarentee.

-To signify that a sheet is among one of the more popular sheets
-To gain additional attention

There's also a good chance that at some point I'll go through and replace the more ugly icons with nicer ones, probably without warning... so here's your chance to beat me to it ;)

This site needs better icons. Lately there's been ones which are terribly put together, not transparent, and have terrible jokes.

Good update though, glad the terrible icons are being stopped

I agree with Josiah. The thumbnails should be plain and simple.

oops, oh yeah.. Well as long as the thumbnail doesn't have anything terrible on it and represents the sheet fine. Then its good to me.

Personally, I just want thumbnails that show me enough poses so I can get a decent idea of the overall quality of the sprites. Doesn't matter if the background's transparent or not, only if the actual sprites are something you'd want to use.

Thumbnails shouldn't need to be transparent...

See any thumbnail from the last 40 or so sprite pages for perfect examples of what they should look like.

Keep the big update, but lose the "+1000 downloads" off the icon. There really isn't a point in it, because all of the submissions will reach 1000 downloads at some point... it's nothing special.

I agree with these complaints! That's why the update has been going too slow.

Sorry, but the whole animated thumbnail thing was making the site look tacky. Again, it's unneccssary.

Except crappy thumbnails have absolutely nothing to do with site performance.
