My annual backup public service message

Backups are nice. Backups save your data from untimely hard drive failure, which preserves your sanity - which is good, because preserving your sanity is also nice. And when you preserve your sanity, you won't spend all day listening to Village People music! Too many promising projects have perished when a storage device decided it was ready to go to Hard Drive Heaven, so back up your stuff. While backing up game source code is especially important, it's also worthwhile to back up game resources - particularly custom-made sprites and music, but also things you've downloaded from the Internet, since a lot of that stuff might be time-consuming to recover. If a file's important enough to warrant a permanent spot on your hard drive, it's important enough to be backed up, and since flash drives are so cheap now, there's no excuse not to perform regular backups. (Microsoft's OneDrive jazz is handy for Windows 8 users who are too lazy to copy important files manually, as is Dropbox, which works with older operating systems as well). This concludes my annual lecture on backups, a lecture I've been giving approximately once a year since the time I first became really active on MFGG. And the good news is you won't have to hear it again for several more months, while the bad news is you won't have anyone to blame if your hard drive goes kablammo at the hour of greatest need. I managed to read the second sentence as "Backups save your family from untimely hard drive failure, which preserves your sanity." How does that even. I'd blame it on reading too fast, but that word's not even close. Now I'm sitting here thinking about a family full of people dying of hard drive failure, then staying dead because they didn't back themselves up. But in all seriousness, yeah, backups are nice. Learning the hard way how one save to an external source could have saved something of yours could be considered lacking in the fun department. So do it. Save your stuff in multiple places. If you can't afford external junk to put your stuff on or for some reason never think to get it when you've got the chance to, there are cloud services available for free meant for that kind of thing if you've got the connection to support it. |

I never thought of that. Thanks for reminding me it exists, Vinny!

Funny thing that my turdy laptop's IDE (not SATA) hard drive just died. Good grief that I have multiple physical/virtual backups. Not only that my hard drive fails, I'm in middle of several of my projects including an indie game.

I also noticed an issue with the Updates Archives. The month "January" is misspelled as "Januray". http://i.imgur.com/49B1sWj.png Please fix this. (I cannot come to the forums right now due to PC privilege limits, so I can't post on Site Talkback and Suggestions) |

It's not an Easter egg. I've poked fun at it more than once myself. It's just a tricky fix I think.

"Luigi and the Quest for Nothing - Enhanced" is already done. However, in Lu9's bio on the MFGG wiki, it is still outdated, saying that the game is still in progress. --------------------------------- Games Currently in Progress Mario Breakout Deluxe Luigi and the Quest for Nothing - Enhanced Life of George - Rebuilt --------------------------------- This should be fixed. |

^Thanks for this, however I'd like to point out that you can just request an account for the Wiki and do such small edits yourself :)

No need for a wiki account Guinea. ;) My priority is pointing to sprites and tilesets, and comics. EDIT: I sense another April Fools 2014 Prank event coming up soon after March. Are you sure this is gonna happen? If that's gonna happen, don't screw up my forum account until I have plans to return! |

I think that you should request one anyway, that way if you spot something, you can fix it, instead of needing to ask somebody else to do it. I can even help you if you need. |

Okay, thanks for the info Nite Shadow. I'll be ready soon. EDIT: I submitted a new tileset, unfortunately I ran out of ideas for new sprites. |
