SMW map engine By: Ultramario
This example shows how to make Super Mario World like map system.

The engine features:
- Mario can walk on curvy routes without needing to stop
- Routes actually open graphically
- Warp pipes (that also transport)
- Transporting
- Mario graphically climbs ladders
- Cheep Cheeps, boos, clouds (decorations)
- Castles and fortresses that blow up after you beat them
- Support to secret routes

Please, do NOT use the platform engine included withing this engine (it's crappy). Either merge this with more advanced platform engine or make one yourself.

Credit is highly appreciated, but it's not the end of the world if you forget it.

Wow....ngine are almost never submitted now adays and then all of a sudden 3 great engines for GM6 pop up....Mabey gm is becomeing more popular...graet thats all i can use...

I am currently making a GM game and using the SMB3-style map. Now that I've seen this, I am kicking myself for not using this engine!

This is going to be used in my first mario fangame, Stupid Mario World. Don't expect to see it probably until December... 2008. Maybe. Hopefully not. Better not. Instead of typing this comment, I should work on it...

Mario walks slowly and when you are in the middle of the jump, you can't move from the right direction.

!! btw: I made it into a greate platform smb1 style engine. you can see what I did on the fourms in fangame discussion like 5 months ago before I got banned.

great example, it is almost exactly like smw but cooler in some places. ROCK ON!

all your have to do is make sure you have gm6 reg and then right click on the game icon and goto properties, then find the change button, finally run it with gamemaker6 not 7.

It's not a crime, if you use it. The point is that I don't really recommend using it.

I can't open it in GML...
Why?
It says I have to choose a program to open the file with because it's in unknown format or something...
I choose Game Maker but it still doesn't open...

It's a great engine, but my only problem is that it isn't in code (and it has been way too long since I have seen the side of GM where absolutely NO knowledge of programming is required (just a few clicks *BOOM* Ugly Game Made!)), which could be a problem if you wanted to easily edit the system to your likings. You probably won't, but in the future, if possible, you should transfer this to code. :D
Currently, I'm trying to do that right now. :(

EDIT: Glitch(ish) found. it's not necessarily harmful, but bad for gameplay! Though the paths are blocked off by being invisible, you can still go over them. Ex. In the first level you access, you can still go up (if the bridge isn't there, then you can't go over the bridge), even if you didn't finish the first level. May be due to my Game Maker being 7.0 Pro, but still...

He Dosen't Need To GM6 Files Work With GM7.

Yes they do, but minor errors occur due to changes between them. EX HME3 used in GM7 causes Collision to not work.

This is amazing. I'm floored by how awesome this engine is!! I will definitely give you credit when I make my fan game. I'd been trying to think of a way to do this map engine forever! Thank you so much!

Also, I'm using GM7Pro and had no problem with running the application, so I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Once again, great stuff!!

Awesome, but if you hold down shift for a while levels automatically unlock w/o beating the previous ones... but who cares! GREAT!

Shift is the debug key.

Could you make this so it looks more like the original SMW map? I need to use the original for my game, and being a beginner, this is really hard to convert.

This is great! Probably the best map engine but I think you could use a simpler way to go to certain levels, instead of using x,y cordinants you can use creation codes .You can just say to go to the room "myroom" and hold ctrl and right click on the level object and go to creation code: myroom = level1 or something similar to that.

I'm sort of a beginner in a way at GameMaker so it's hard for me to figure out how to do it but I might...

Same here. This also blends with NSMB-style maps.

EDIT: Why does this keep happening? The game hangs when I try to import.

It Works in GM7 AND 8 i just need to rewrite some lines of code and add some code and it was fully useable for Hello Engine 5.1 :D
Anyway Thanks for this "engine" :D
