Ah, The demo is finally here. After much testing, and procrastinating, I have finally released a demo. Now that it is summer break, I have much needed time to concentrate on this project.
-includes control.txt
-The demo includes 1 level, and a challenge mode level.

Please feel free to report any known bugs.
-Yes, I realize the file size is quite large for a demo, but it is worth it. The actual game..well it probably won't fit on the website, in which I'll upload it to another hosting website.

Overall this took about 2 months to iron out all the known bugs with the main engine, Made in Multimedia fusion 2. Much credit to sprite resource, MFGG community, any anyone else involved. Heh, making a game by yourself isn't so easy.

Well, Enjoy. And please comment as you wish. The actual version won't be released until years from now, so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Holy crap, man! You call this a game? This is the most pathetic excuse for a fangame I've EVER seen! It's terrible!
Nah, just kidding. In fact, this is without a doubt the best platformer I have ever seen on MFGG, it's golden! There's hardly anything that could make this game better, and I'm sure it'll be HUGE in no time. I give it a 9.95/10, and that's the first time I've ever given a game a two-digit decimal score. Nice job with this, and I definately mean it. No joke.

Thanks for the positive feedback. But there are a few things I want to point out.

-The file size is large not due to the music. The mp3's are already converted into .ogg's, so they are only about 100~900 KB.
- I did a test, and removed all the .ogg's from the game, and the total file size was only maybe 3mb smaller.
- Sorry to disappoint anyone I said that this demo would have 2 story-mode levels. I should have, but I was eager to release the demo with my success in removing some of the bugs that took weeks to fix. If I had waited maybe a week or so it would have undoubtedly been better, but ah oh well there's always next time.

Good side though
-The game won't really get that much bigger with a full version, since all I'm really doing is just adding levels and a few cut scenes. The heart of the game is the engine, and it is without a doubt going to be big.

Anyway please still remember to report any glitch/annoyance/bug you find. The only one I know of, is the skills randomly all show up sometimes.

(NOTE: Since I DID decide to make it save your progress, if you beat the first level, you can play it though with lily)

you have no idea how long I've been waiting to try this fangame. It looked so cool on the Youtube video, not its time to see if the video lives up to the demo :)

Okay, played the demo, and there are some things that need to be adressed. First of all, not every time I die does the game send me back to the begining/ check point, meaning I have to close and re-open the game. Next, if I try to charge and anthing is held down after letting go of ctrl, than I don't go anywere. :P Also, doesint it seem kinda odd that the partner you need to use is just ABOVE the obsticle your needing to get though with the same charicter? Oh and the "Stage Complete" thing didint work the first time. I had to press enter and change back into mario, than movie away from the mario coin, and come back for the "Stage Complete" text to come up. Anyhow, I give this an 8 out of ten. Looking very good, but certianly not perfect. Just keep working on it, I like were this is going. :)

1. Well you only have 1 life, so after dieing twice you get game over, and you should be sent to main menu. I remember this problem aswell, but I'm sure it was fixed in v1.2
2. oh yeah, well all I can say here is that, well just press down + shift to use skills xD.
3. hmm im not sure what you mean by this. you mean it is odd that she is placed above the purple bricks?
4. not sure what happened here, did you use fire mario/fire lily?

1. I downloaded the demo about 5:00 a'clock western time today...I donno when you uploaded 1.2, so...
2. LOL, okay... XD
3. Ya, I mean it seems kinda odd how the partner is RIGHT there? It would make more sense if it was a little more clear than "oh, your Mario and you want me to join your team? okay!". Usualy they don't join you unless you do something for them in the real games, exept for the first one who usualy gos on about how he/she craves adventure or whatever... but hey, this is your game. :P

ah, because it first start off as a sonic game, but I decided to scrap it, but I didnt get rid of all the sound effects yet because im looking what to replace them with xD.

I think I found a bug... on my slower computer, Mario (or whatever your character is at the moment) doesn't jump high enough. He jumps only about 32 pixels and I can't jump over the first obstacle. However, on my new, faster comp everything seems to work well. :S

I guess this could happen because of using timers in the jumping engine (I use mmf2 too, so I know about these things). When the game runs too slow, the timer starts to make mario fall too early.

If this is the problem, I hope this helped. :)

This game is GREAT!!!! The engine is good, the game looks nice and everythings great... I will tell you if I find any bugs or have any other ideas. :) I'm really looking forward to the full version. :D

Yeah I remember this happening. well, it uses variable jumping, and when you jump off the spring, it just increases the y-coordinates by like -15 or something. Someone told me they had this problem looong ago in beta testing engine, but I thought i fixed it by making you go higher. guess not :(

and yeah thanks for the feedback everyone. oh and I just set a random date like 2010 or something because I dont want to break any promises because it took too long to make. when it is released, well, I have no idea.

Oh, started as A Sonic Game? That explains a lot of things... It proves that even something as difforent as Sonic can be used to make A good Mario game. :D

Well, well, well. LOL, this is a good game.
It needs some tweaking. I didn't find any bugs, which is a really good thing. The engine seems fairly solid.
The difficulty of the game is a bit hard, the damage you take from the enemies and the collision with the enemies should be better, or at least be less confusing. Too many scores appearing.
I really like this game. It's the first real 2D Super Paper Mario "clone" I've played. The whole Super Chomp scene went too fast and I didn't feel like I was in control.
There should be a story in the beginning, so we know where Mario's heading and why he let Lily join his party. Everything looks good. The graphics are nice, and you matched the different game graphics together nicely. Also, I'd fix the sprite of the "star book" in the beginning of Chapter 1-1. I'd also look into decreasing file size. That'll scare away a lot of people.

Conclusion: I'd say this is Mario's "Paper Bowser World". 7.5/10 (Because it could be better, but I'm sure it'll great when it's finished)

1.ah what part in the game is exactly difficult? I honestly tried to make it as easy as possible.(The first level, that is).
2. too many scores? hmm I probably should of said what each score is for. This is a Semi-RPG. when you jump on enemies, it shows how much damage you do to them.
3. yeah, in the super chomp scene you weren't in control because it is just sorta like an in-game event that occurs.
4. there's a story. although it seems rather bland right now, but ah, nearly all stories start off slow. basically, mario receives a letter from peach and you are heading to Peach's castle(which is explained in the first chapter scene)
5. the file size I have tried to reduce the most I could. I'll look for other ways though. I was actually thinking the game will be around maybe 500mb when finished lol.

1. You did a decent job at that. The challenge mode was difficult. I couldn't get past the bat. :)
The Chapter 1 level had a little bit too many enemies for a first level. Oh well. I got through it eventually. Maybe it was because I wasn't use to the engine.

3. Ok, I'd make it more significant or more cinematic. At least longer, that way I don't sneeze and miss the whole scene and wonder what Count Bleck was talking about. That didn't really happen, just an example. :)

4. Hmm, well, I must have missed that or something cause when I tried entering my name before playing I accidentally went forward and the Chapter started. At least give Lily for joining the party. Maybe invite her to meet Peach? Give Lily a reason to want to meet Peach maybe?

5. I recommend you make some sprites smaller and not use so many. It looks nice in the game yes, but no one will play if it's a 500 mb fan game. Also, only use midi files for music. MP3's take up too much space. And definitely make sure your .wav files are short. They take up MUCH more space than MP3.

This is mainly opinion, so please don't feel like I'm being pushy or something.

Marios color changes a bit too late at the intro.
Also, why is Luigi called Marios "former" brother?
And how the hell are you supposed to jump over the first obstacle?

1. It changes when the light passes over him, bringing him to life( which is color)

2. Secret

3. I'm guessing it is your computer. on slower computers the FPS is dropped effecting marios jump height for some reason(which I will change later)

yeah someone mentioned that. and jump skills used only once to prevent easy leveling up.(when you use special jump, you get exp, and if you could use it more than once, anyone could just keep doing it). although, I may change it so it doesn't give as much exp, but change how much exp it gives based on what level your on.

nothing I can do. 10 mb takes like 15 seconds to download. even if it was compressed in folders, the filesize would still be only maybe 2-4 mb smaller. I honestly don't know how you can even be on the internet while it takes 1 full minute to download 1 mb.

If you haveint notised, I added A review. I got board... XD.

Also: for you or me, it may take only 15 seconds to download (since I have FiOS...And you have...something just as good) But some of these guys are running on Satalite internet or even DIAL-UP! So for them it may take from 10 to two hours... I know, I used to HAVE Dial-up. 0_o
For them, taking off 4 MB would take of 2 - 30 minutes on the download.
(I can't say much for myself though...My fangame is 32MB and getting bigger! XD)
