General Commentary and Game Overview
I hated the original Paper Bowser World, but read something about puzzles being in this one, so I decided to give it a try.
Needless to say, I liked this game a LOT better than its predecessor. I think what helped it the most is that while it maintains a painful control scheme which makes it completely unsuitable for a platformer, it has a tendency to use puzzle elements, so it isn't anywhere near as much of a bore. The jokes are OK. I would have liked it if more were sprinkled in. Actually, the jokes made the tutorial level one of my favorites, because I was interested enough to see what the next sign said. I was a bit disappointed that there weren't many more humorous signs throughout the rest of the game. The boss battles are a lot better than Paper Bowser World, since it actually takes some effort. I absolutely hated the "one hit and you're dead" deal in Paper Bowser World. Adding in a health system made this game much less prone to being frustrating. However, I didn't much like that you are once again killed instantly if you shrink down. I would have preferred it if you just took more damage than usual. I also liked the sound Bowser makes when he breathes fire while small. I don't know why, it just sounds funny. Unfortunately, this game still has no replay value, but that's to be expected when all the fun is in jokes and puzzles, so I'm not complaining. A bigger pitfall is that music is apparently MP3s again. This is a bad practice with Game Maker. Not every machine can play the music if you use MP3s, and my laptop happens to be one of those that can't. Use OGGs and an extension or DLL that allows you to play OGGs. As far as I'm concerned, if a GM game uses MP3 music, it doesn't use music at all.
