General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Bros. Super Quest is one of the worst games on the site. Everything in the game is pretty much a MESS. And I'm counting such "masterpieces" as Paper Mario World.

Pros +Mario350 tried to make a game from scratch, which is better than just copying the Hello Engine.

Cons -Toad is unable to beat any levels, from what I've done
-Stretched backgrounds
-SUPER repetitive voices
-Some blocks disappear without indication
-The sprites aren't centered, making Mario and Toad teleport when they turn around.
-Cannot stomp on Paratroopas

Impressions
Gameplay
1 / 10
The gameplay is just part one of what makes this game bad. Sure, its not that Hello Engine that everyone and their grandmothers seem to use, but this is so much worse that I kind of wish that Mario350 DID use it.

For starters, to jump physics are a mess. Like, Action 52 jump-bad. You have to HOLD left or right and then jump. If you jump and then even tap left or right, you will plummet straight down and lose all vertical momentum.

Jumping on a Paratroopa is a no-no. Jumping on one will get you killed, no matter what. Just found that super frustrating, especially seeing that Paratroopas are the fastest enemies in the game.

Graphics
3 / 10
The graphics are probably the best aspect of this game. And even so, they're still pretty bad. The sprites, for the most part, never clash. The Goombas, for whatever reason, are 8-bit, when a 16-bit version of the same sprite already exists. The backgrounds are stretched, making them look as appealing as a non-stretched background covered in vomit.

Mario and Toad, though, are from SMB2, which doesn't really clash with SMB3 style too much, but they don't fit in all that well at all.

The Piranha Plants have their Yoshi's Island sprite, which is something you should never add when making a SMB3-styled game. The Piranha Plants also animate way too quickly. Heads up to all Game Maker newbies - USE THE VARIABLE "IMAGE_SPEED." It helps. A lot.

Still, though, Mario350 pretty much maintained SMB3 style throughout the entire game. Even though the style is overrated as all-get-out, it's still good to see that most of the sprites are in the style.

Sound
1 / 10
This game has a minute soundtrack and many, many voices. And these voices want you to know that they're there. Mario and Toad open their traps after doing anything. Jumping? They talk. Die? They TALK. Grabbing a Coin? THEY TALK. This is especially irritating when there's a cluster of coins. I suppose it's slightly more bearable, though, that the voices cut each other off.

The music consists of at least two songs, and possibly a third for this supposed "bonus level." About halfway through the first stage, you can hear the second song, the underground theme. However, like the voices, it cuts itself off every time you touch one of the black boxes which causes the song to play. You can pretty much never hear it if you stay down there, no matter how badly you want to hear this overused midi.

Replay
1 / 10
I see no reason to come back to this game at all. I couldn't make it past stage 2, and I don't think I ever will, due to the horrible physics. In fact, none of the stages seem to be possible as Toad, which is completely ridiculous.

Final Words
1 / 10
Everything in this game is a hot mess. If you treasure your sanity, avoid this game.

It truly is a mystery how games like this get accepted.

I think MFGG is too lenient with game submissions. I mean, the movement (Mario's and the enemies) just don't work..... Usually I find it a bit harsh to give a game a 1/1, but I can see why you (and all the other reviews) would give it this score.

Pretty much, this.
