General Commentary and Game Overview
The first Super Mario Epic was rather mediocre. The second one was quite enjoyable, and a vast improvement over the first, though many flaws were still present. And now, we have this: finally, a fan game worthy of the title, "epic." Well, it will be eventually...

Pros -Play as Mario and Luigi
-Great blend of SMB2 and 3 elements (a la TSB)
-The P Switch

Cons -The demo only contains only one level
-You can die in the demo
-It is still a demo

Impressions
Gameplay
8 / 10
Smooth engine, blah blah blah. To be perfectly honest, engines, no matter how well made they are, don't mean crap if there isn't enjoyable content and stage designs to back it up.

And thankfully, SME3 delivers. While the demo stage isn't anything spectacular (it's not supposed to be spectacular, it's the first level, after all), you cannot deny that it is well put together, and you even have a pipe leading to a bonus room.

Item wise, we've got the fire flower, and the SML2 carrot - an item seemingly popularized by Blue Twilight. The hammer suit is expected in the future. And of course, we've got SMB2 vegetables and Shy Guys.

It's got the content, it's got potential. While nothing truly new or exciting, SME3 is indeed an enjoyable experience.

Graphics
8 / 10
A fine combination of graphics from SMB3, SMW, and Mario Party Advance, with a few original sprites thrown in. All in all, it looks nice.

Minor nags that really don't matter:
-The heart could use smoother animation.
-Mario could use a "going down pipe" animation.

Sound
7 / 10
Sound sample come from various Mario games, as expected. We have the use of uncommon midis, as opposed to the SMW overworld theme we are all bored to death of hearing in fan games. Nice song, but I ask you, Jeff: where's your Nirvana music?

Replay
5 / 10
Both Mario and Luigi are playable, so that could add some degree of replay value. At the moment, the game doesn't have much else to offer with only one level, but you may come back to it occasionally, since it is an enjoyable game.

Final Words
8 / 10
Not an "epic" fan game quite yet, but believe me: it will be.
