General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Yoshi World is a neat little game with a good premise that, unfortunately, is marred by the game's technical flaws.

Pros A really fun concept Some neat level designs Lots of levels

Cons Animation is lacking Spotty collision "Stopper block" mechanic is a little awkward

Gameplay
7 / 10
Super Yoshi World is a single-screen, puzzle-oriented platformer with some engaging levels. In each level, your goal is simply to get to the exit; of course, it's never as simple as just walking up to it. You'll have to activate switches, and collect eggs in order to open locked doors, to reach your objective. Sound easy? Well... it is. But it's oddly compelling nonetheless. Certain levels also feature floating Chain Chomps; in these levels, you fire "stopper blocks" at them to freeze them, at which point you can use them as platforms. This element doesn't work so well, for the simple reason that it's hard to time exactly correctly. Of course, the oddball control (which makes it hard to control your velocity mid-air) and the wonky collision (which only works when it wants to) mar the experience even more. If you're willing to overlook these flaws, though, the game is an addictive little time-waster.

Graphics
6 / 10
The graphics in this game are merely functional. While Yoshi and the level blocks look alright, the backgrounds (if there even are any) are rather poor, and the enemies and moving platforms look pretty bad. Also, the enemies, the switches, and Yoshi himself are missing a lot of frames, which can be disconcerting at times.

Sound
8 / 10
There's really not that much in the way of sound, but what's there is alright, and the MIDIs provide a pleasant backdrop to play to. I have no complaints.

Replay
5 / 10
There are a LOT of levels in this game, so it should keep you going for quite a while just on the first playthrough. After that, of course, there's really nothing left to see.

Final Words
6 / 10
Super Yoshi World epitomizes the phrase, "good idea, bad execution". While it will no doubt give the patient and open-minded gamer a good bit of fun, there are many similar games out there that aren't as frustrating technically. Recommended, but cautiously.
