General Commentary and Game Overview
Mario Warp Zone is quite something really. It's brutally difficult, but it's also quite old. That alone makes it somewhat impressive given that it stands up quite well against many fangames being produced with newer software.

Pros -Decent Engine
-Good effects like rain
-Not as disorienting as some games with this sort of perspective

Cons -A little buggy
-Extremely difficult
-Mario walks very slowly
-If Mario jumps back in the pipe after Bowser appears, he get's stuck inside

Impressions
Gameplay
7 / 10
The gameplay is actually quite good. The isometric viewpoint is well done here, and Mario is fun and easy to control, especially with his ability to attack in the air. Running and jumping on top of objects is pretty straightforward. A major issue however is the difficulty. The game is absolutely unforgiving, with relentless and sometimes unbeatable enemies, frequent inability to recover lost health, and very challenging level design. All in all, the game is very well made, but it's learning curve is entirely too steep.

Graphics
8 / 10
The graphics are very much what one would expect, but they look nice overall. Lots of Mario RPG and Mario 64 elements are used throughout. The overall look closely resembles Mario 64, which works pretty well in 2D. The tiles all line up nice, objects in the air have shadows to show where they are, and characters generally move in front of and behind objects properly. The game definitely does a good job with creating the illusion of 3D.

Sound
7 / 10
The sounds effects are fine. The music consists of a number of old, frequently used Midis. However, it's difficult to really fault the game for this as the game was made long enough ago that those songs probably weren't overused at the time. They simply haven't aged well.

Replay
5 / 10
Not much, but that's not really a surprise. It's fun to play around in the game, as the engine is actually quite good, but the high difficulty means you probably won't want to come back for more.

Final Words
7 / 10
Mario Warp Zone is actually quite good, especially considering its age. It's just a shame it's so frustrating at times, as it really has the potential to be an excellent fangame.
