Super Mario Everything 2 - (Un)Private Build
preview
By: Vitiman
NOTE: This fangame ceased development in early 2010. What I'm sharing with you here right now is mainly for historical purposes rather than "playability" (since apparently that's not a word).

Remember Super Mario Everything 2? I've long since requested for its deletion off the site many years ago (something I actually kinda regret doing), but now I'm here to set things right... or at least, set things to have some form of Mario Everything 2 on MFGG again. Here today is a special private version of the game I sent to my old friend Madox when I was still working on it that had up to what I finished so far for it. I more or less dropped development of the game between the lukewarm reception and some of the backlash I got from my overly negative (but also now non-existent) Late Night Mario review.

BUT today, I'm finally unprivating this demo version of the game, which is less of a demo and more of a "this is all I have of the game left, because I lost the source at some point or another". Don't expect to enjoy it very much - it's pretty awful. But, that said, it has something of a charm to it! A very stupid charm, but a charm nonetheless.

Uh..... This seem appreciating... But when I download this game.... I read the instructions first, Then I go to the game.. But all of a sudden It gaves me a error....

Your software will maybe get fix or some occurring
problems....

I Never seems surprised... I look towards Vitiman's game (which is Super Mario Everything 2)

I knew it was the demo version, but it was scrapped......

My OS is Windows 10 Home version...
I could ask myself why..... This OS
is very unique powerful Operate system...
I updated my PC today...
It was difficult though....
What Operate system you have Mac or Windows?
I'm sure this is kind of a mistake

Windows 10, eh? Well, this was made in an application that dates back to 2001, possibly even earlier! Try running it in compatibility mode, although somehow I doubt that'll fix it (if it does though, great!)

Well. I think I know why it was scrapped.

You're half right and half wrong. The score you're observing now isn't an accurate one, as that appears to have been a declined review that somehow made it into the average (I don't know if you can still see it or not, but as of today it seems to have been fixed!)

But at the same time, this game got pretty mediocre reception back in 2010, and that IS partially why I scrapped it, as I make note of in the description.

Ok, now let me discuss about Super Mario everything.....

I pretty like what you did I was in Cloud Heaven at first then I was kinda curious about the enemies...
Some of them are easy to stop on em and some are kind difficult to throw fireballs at em...

It was Normal neat game you got there Vitiman I really do...

But..

Honest Opinion:

It's scrapped but it's good!
Needs a little bigfix
Change Graphics a little bit!

(If it's change your mind then it's cool!)

Hmm, so the 2/10 review was rejected. Perhaps I should show that guy what a REAL Super Mario Everything 2 review looks like.

Also, it's a little depressing to see a game without a score... :|

I gave it a go, but unfortunately I was only able to withstand so much before I called it quits. I made it to Act 2 and for whatever reason I kept dying on one of the Koopas trying to jump on top of it.

It was kind of frustrating because I could kill a Koopa jumping and hitting it from the side, but if I were to land directly on top of them, it would randomly kill me.

Controls were really frustrating to. I even tried using my SNES controller using a Super Smart Joy adapter as that's how I like to play Mario fangames, and it was still frustrating. Acceleration and deceleration of Mario felt really off. Like I would go to walk and Mario would just be walking full speed, but the deceleration would cause me to fall of the clouds quite a bit.

I'm sorry if I couldn't go any further for a better feedback, but the controls and random deaths kind of killed it for me.

All is well, render8. This is a very old game of mine, so it's no skin off my bones!

Agree completely about the control and feel. I didn't bother making it feel even remotely weighty at all, and you tend to just go all over the place; not even sliding around, just kind of snapping around, if that makes sense.

Well, I never intended this to be seen by anyone but Madox, so at the time I never bothered putting a little "end of the demo thanks!" screen.

Actually if memory serves I never put a little screen like that at the end of the actual demo I released to MFGG back in the day. Maybe I was just really lazy, we'll never know.

Hey, I never said it was a guaranteed charm!

I've talked to people who legitimately enjoyed it, and I've talked to people who absolutely hated it. Finally, I've talked to people who find it mediocre and not all that fun nor appallingly bad - just meh. Personally, if you ask me, it's nostalgic in a way, but for all of the wrong reasons really.

But hey! This is a scrapped game from 6+ years ago, don't try and pair it up against some of the best, for I can already assure you it is in good company with some of the worst.

This happened to Cap'n Coconuts too. The trigger for if the game goes into the next level, if I'm remember right, relies on the MIDI finishing. Do you perhaps have "music turned off" checked in the options? If you didn't, then I'm not sure what's up. So far you two are the only ones this has happened to, and it's not like I can just fix it since... y'know, source lost long ago, scrapped game, mediocre at best, etc.

I currently working on my own game. So far, there's only 4 completed levels. 3 normal ones and 1 bonus room. It's a traditional Mario 2D platformer, with a few new power-ups and items.

Why, yes! I thought the MIDI used there was kind of boring to listen to, so I listened to this instead...

I think the main reason why people are sort of bashing this is above all a matter of timing. Not only is it the first game you uploaded after P-switch predicament (which was a joke game), but it's also the game IMMEDIATELY above that game in the most recent games.

What I'm saying is that uploading a "scrapped" game which you admit is really bad immediately after a game you intentionally DESIGNED to be really bad probably wasn't your best decision ever.

It would have been a better idea to at least upload one serious project between them. Heck, a sort of historical tidbit like this probably belongs more on the message board than the mainsite; all of the people who would actually care are probably on there, and most of the people who wouldn't probably aren't.

While yes it probably was bad timing, you have to consider that I don't really make games that much anymore, so this is pretty much all I'm sitting on (that is, as far as "as complete as it'll ever be" goes, I'm working on a thing or two).

Ultimately, if people want to get all whiny and offended at a scrapped game then that's their prerogative - not that it'll make it a better game, but that's not my point. Nobody's forcing anybody to play this, and the fact that it's the latest game submitted to the main site (as of this comment's writing) isn't my fault. After all, if you want to see something new on the main site, feel free to submit something new yourself.

This isn't just directed at soopa, for the record. It's more of a general statement regarding the increasingly entitled comments that are left on games and sprites alike that have been around for years. This is by all means free content, and while that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't be allowed to complain, you could at least put things into perspective before giving your two cents on something.

You also suggested that I upload a serious project between the two games. Having some sort of release schedule just wouldn't really work for a variety of reasons; namely, my work ethic with fangames (and really, most things) is a bit of a free "whenever it tickles my fancy" on-a-whim deal, so it's gonna get released whenever it gets done. This was a special case, in that I've had it on my HD for years now but chose to release it when I did primarily because I figured I'd go ahead and get it out of the way before it got lost forever and ever. Yes, I could have posted it on the forums instead of here, but if memory serves I actually did that a few years back, so this is really more of an "official declaration of never-finished-ness", which does nothing but prove that not only do I make up words, but also serves to make nobody but myself feel a little more at ease with my infinite list of unfinished games.

No offense, but I think I'll choose what to submit to the site and when to do it.

Okay, so I guess I see your point. Once again, though, I'm telling you why I think OTHER people are mad. In no way does this game personally offend me to the extent that I'd write a 1 out of 10 review of it in spite of the fact that everyone already knows that it's bad because you yourself expressly stated that it's bad.

No no, I know why other people are mad, no worries! I'm not mad myself or anything, this has always been an issue with MFGG (particularly its main site) and I've always felt averse to trying to do things in fear that... something like this would happen.

WAS this a good idea? I dunno, I don't really care honestly, I just submitted to have it in the records and archived as a thing I did. Do people need to venomously hate it? Of course not.

Probably because it's an interesting piece of fangaming history now, rather than just a mere mediocre curiosity from a few years back. 6+ years will do that to a fangame, haha
