Mario Bros - Just For Fun: Super Battle Bros
preview
By: Miles [W]
Having not been bothered by any sort of villain for a while, the Mario Brothers have been a bit bored. They, along with a mysterious clone of Luigi, are not really up for normal sports, so they decide to do something a bit different - fight!

Updated 10/29/2011 with the NCFC edition, with added multiplayer and a fixed Desert stage.

Features:
- Loads of options
- Customizable controls
- Power-ups that can be combined
- Sprite styles that adapt to the arena being played on
- 3 game types
- 11 battle arenas
- Alternative arenas that can be found by holding the kick button and starting the fight on certain arenas
- Up to three players if you have USB controllers
- Extra AI options for when 3 fighters just isn't enough

Game Types:
- Slayer: Last man standing wins!
- Coin Battle: First to collect a set amount of coins wins!
- Score Attack: First to reach a set score wins!

Default Controls:
All but one of these can be customized from the menu. Here's the default controls for the keyboard:
Run - Z
Jump - X
Kick - C
Carry - Up Arrow

USB controllers will work with this game, but they must be configured in the menus. For example, if you have an Xbox 360 controller and/or a Logitech USB controller, you must pick the right one for the players, or the button assignments will be wrong and weird. Controllers are assigned to the players in the order that they're plugged in - the settings only affect button assignments.

Notes:
- It's not stated anywhere in game how to carry. With a keyboard, it's done with the up arrow. With a controller, use up on the analog stick. Either way, looking up is how to do it.
- If keyboard controls prove unresponsive at times, try setting your controls to shift, control and z through Settings 1 > Other Options > Customize Controls. This is an issue with certain keyboards.
- If you set Player 1 to use a USB controller, you'll have to use the controller to navigate the menus and set options from then on, except in the keyboard customization menu or if you set Player 1 back to the keyboard.
- Extract all the files! Do NOT try to run it from the zip! Music will not work and your custom controls will not save if you try running without extracting.
Completion: Full Game Genre: Action
Franchise: Mario

Super Epic! Great to see you've finally finished the battle mode! So, does this mean that story mode is definitively canned?

Almost, yes. Some say they want to see it finished, so if I ever do finish the story mode, I'll release it separate from this. That actually happening is a bit on the unlikely side, though.

If you need any help with the story mode, just call me. I'm 100% down with helping you out with level design, story development, or whatever!

A bug. When you try to open an thing on main menu, it ends up where you selected something from.

You mean when you select an option and it puts you back before where the option was sitting?

If you don't mean that, what did you mean? If you did mean that, that was by design.

I love how you put the Clone Luigi in this game. Many powerups are really useful. Good game, but add more maps and powerups!

WTF?
When I started my Windows computer after school on September 7, 2011, I played the game and I started a Slayer fight playing as Clone. After I lose, Luigi said "See you gay!" Then it was so funny that I almost quit the game and got on MFGG.

...Wait, what?! I'm not sure how that's even possible! You can see the list of Luigi's voice clips here.

Funny, but strange. I wonder how that ended up happening.

Miles, I found a glitch:
When I was playing Mario Bros: Just For Fun, I hold down C and entered Plain 01' Plains. Now I tried to hit Luigi, but Mario came and joined the group, which causes them and me to fly out of the screen with the bump sound repeatedly looping. After a second, all of my players fell down, one player fell into the lava, and I press L to get out of the game.

That's weird. I have no clue what could have caused that. Was one player holding another at any point during that? Did two characters try special attacks at once?

I want to fix that, but I'm not sure where to start yet, since even after intense playtesting I've not yet had something like that happen.

It looks like you made a bug when all the bros use the special attacks, they start to fly if you are in wrong timing.

Well, I'll see what I can do. I've got a good idea on what to do about it now. I think bugfix updates are acceptable to this site, so when I get that (and a few other things) done, I'll submit it here and, while waiting for the staff to take care of it, I'll leave an external link here in the comments pointing to it.

It's pretty good. There's still things you kinda need to fix. The biggest problem was I couldn't get the music, even when I extracted it, so... I think it's okay. Out of 5 stars I would give it 4. Now that's my considered opionon, if anyone thinks diffrent that's okay. But that's what I think. :)

Thanks.

Can't quite fix that problem when I can't produce it, though. When extracting the files to a normal folder and then running the game from there, it should work properly... but if the game does not load it properly anyway, I'm not sure what to say, other than trying to put it in a folder on your desktop or something.

What do you mean? If by "works" you mean "fits", I can't find any that wouldn't be jarring when compared to the others, so unfortunately the limited selection was what it was. If by "works" you mean "functions", it does work - you either didn't extract the files from the zip or there's an issue with your computer and supersound.

Game Maker 8.0*

To anyone that saw that I originally said 8.1, oops - meant to say 8.0 from the start. I will never use 8.1.

Multiplayer has been added to this game. If you want to play with a friend and you have a USB controller, you can redownload the game from this site - it's been updated. A sequel has been secretly considered, and as to whether it will happen is unknown. As for smash balls... those abominations will not appear in this or any sequel, I'm afraid.

While I was playing a match in the Burned World with 5 clones, Luigi and Clone, one of the clones fell into the lava after spawning. That is so weird. It is rare.

It's funny, though. If you play the alternate version of that stage, sometimes the extra guys spawn above the pit and die right away. Unfortunate, but funny.
