General Commentary and Game Overview
It's world war 2, and the Nazis have managed to teleport into Mario's universe. A crazy story? Not really. Although you could expect to see a poorly made game involving cheap graphics and movement, you see this. SM:DH is the first of it's kind that ACTUALLY WORKS, and here's why...

Pros Classic Mario action, great new powerups, great story.

Cons Collision is very buggy, graphics aren't the best.

Impressions
Gameplay
6 / 10
Many collision bugs lie in this game, mainly due to the movement of Mario. Once you get used to it, it's fine, but very much unlike the offical Mario games. A few little engine changes are in order, and from what I've heard, these problems will be overcome in the final version. Again, there are some good parts and some bad parts, but overall you can see what the author's trying to do.

Graphics
7 / 10
Practically everything in the game has been resized in some way. This means that everything looks a little ruined, because the sprites are pixelized. Stepping away from that, you can see the graphics are pretty good, just ruined by the 'blockiness'. Everything matches, and has that 'new' sort of feel, regardless of the fact it's just some minor SMW edits. Great stuff.

Sound
6 / 10
This is a hard part to review. Some sounds are good, others are bad. For instance, the first playabe level uses some fairly decent music at the start, but when you get to the chase, it's replaced by overused Sonic Adventure 2 music. The sfx are all in the right place, but again, it's nothing new.

Replay
7 / 10
It's only a demo, so you obviously can't get loads of replay value out of it. It's definately fun to play, but can get a little repetative.

Final Words
7 / 10
Occasionally, a Mario game is submitted that you just HAVE to review. SM:DH is one of them. There's a few bugs, but it's still worth the download.
