General Commentary and Game Overview
If you remember the lack of saves and having to start from the beginning every time you run out of lives with fondness, play this. It's the NES afficianado's dream. However, most people find this outdated system supremely annoying. Still, many will keep coming back for its excellent level design. Personally, I find the fact that it's hard to reach the final levels with enough lives to actually do them attractive, I do enjoy a challenge. I never finished it, though I reached the final boss once.

Pros -Good engine
-Good levels
-Good bosses
-Large enemy variety (both standard and smw goombas are featured.

Cons No saves, and 1-ups are hard to come by. No continues, either, so expect to be forced back to level 1 more than once.

Impressions
Gameplay
8 / 10
Evocative of the NES, the lack of a save system and the rarity of extra lives greatly ups the difficulty of a game that otherwise would be average difficulty. The engine works, and the level design is excellent.

Graphics
8 / 10
Mostly custom, but the spriter was no Avi. Still not bad though. Widely varied, it seems hardly any levels use quite the same theme or tileset.

Sound
8 / 10
Wildly varied. One of the bosses actually has Chrono Trigger music playing in the background, and the ordinary ground theme is from Mario Kart. Yet, somehow, it works well.

Replay
8 / 10
It forces anyone who wants to actually finish (and if you're like me you will) to replay it many times. Once you actually beat the game, however, you probably won't come back.

Final Words
8 / 10
Evocative of the NES, most of the challenge is in doing the easy early levels perfectly so that by the late and hard levels you will have enough lives to finish. No saving, obviously. Still, quite enjoyable.

Wait, this was updated with save points? Well, I must have reviewed the first version. I downloaded it like the first day it came out, and just reviewed it now. Boy, do I feel stupid. I made a screwy review and for that I apologize.
