Pros | + Decent idea for a game + Soundtrack is alright + Not too long, not too short |
Cons | - The "level design" is mostly pretty ugly - The end of the game is kind of a letdown - Some of the mechanics don't fully "work" |
Gameplay 5 / 10 |
The engine used is the ol' reliable (default Clickteam platform movement). It doesn't get in the way TOO much, but there are definitely going to be times when you get stuck on things, and the last couple levels where you have to jump on moving platforms are pretty dang annoying because of it. Speaking of levels, instead of being a typical get-to-the-end-of-the-level platformer, Super Yoshi World requires you to press a bunch of buttons and collect a bunch of eggs in order to complete a level. It's not exactly a huge difference, but it does make the game feel at least a bit more "special." The last two levels, like I said earlier, do eschew the formula and are just normal, bad platformer levels. There's also a final boss that's basically just button-mashing. Some of the levels have a gimmick where you throw blocks at flying Chain Chomps in order to stop them so that you can use them as platforms (?). While this is kind of a creative idea, it's also very clunky, especially since shooting a block sometimes causes you to get stuck in the shooting animation, which prevents you from pressing the buttons, forcing you to restart the level. I eventually had to complete most of the "Chomp levels" without shooting any blocks since the bug didn't stop happening. For whatever reason, you can kill ground Goombas but not Paragoombas. Also, since there are no invincibility frames after getting hit, you can die to a ground Goomba (but not a Paragoomba) in about half a second if you're not careful. |
Graphics 6 / 10 |
For the most part, the graphics are decent. Some of the custom graphics are a bit weak, though, and the blocks in the levels are almost always strewn here and there with little care given to any sort of aesthetical design. Pretty ugly stuff. |
Sound 8 / 10 |
The soundtrack's alright (some nice SMRPG music there) and the sound effects aren't too egregious (though some of them ARE a bit low-quality and/or loud). |

Decent timewaster, but nothing too noteworthy. |

Wow, that's a blast from the past! This was one of the first fangames I ever played. I can't say it's an amazing-quality game, though. |
