You have to set the variable that handles the current lives you have.

I found two glitches

1.- When you have the frameskip enabled and you pause the game the menu doesn't show (It happens too in your engine).

2.- When you Press 'Enter' when you have the game paused it doesn't close. That just make the screen more darker.

Also the game is good, But I miss the warp through rooms feature.

No, I made a 18x32 rectangle, then I added four rectangles in these positions (5,2), (0,12), (10,12), (5,22). Then I took that sprites and I started makin' the animation, and we have now a sparkle effect.

If the sprite is larger than 32. You must put in the y origin box, the sprite height of the sprite - 32 and that will solve the problem.
