General Commentary and Game Overview
Having loved the original SMB, I was interested when SMB DDX was announced. Now the demo has been released, I'm extremely impressed and amazed. A good engine, great edited graphics and some of the best level design here. Even humour and secrets!

Pros Fun secret area (one of the best parts of the game)
Two characters
Good levels
Original graphics
Awesome engine

Cons Nothing!

Gameplay
10 / 10
One of the parts where SMBDDX excels. Being the first All Mario Engine-powered game that has had a demo released, every addition to the engine for this game works perfectly. From flagpoles to Giant Mario, not a single complaint can be found. The movement is excellent and means that even Luigi is just as easy to control as in the official Mario games.

Graphics
9 / 10
Great edited graphics are in SMBDDX: 16-bit recolours of the original SMB tiles and sprites with some new stuff in places (shhh...). Nearly everything animates nicely, but the mediocre HUD and some glaring omissions (such as no water/lava animations) deduct a point here.

Sound
8 / 10
I have no sound on my computer.

Replay
8 / 10
With the two characters and various different paths you can take, you'll be sure to replay this more than twice. However, a demo doesn't really have much replay value anyway..

Final Words
10 / 10
An excellent remake of SMB with all-new features and everything you loved about the original. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
