General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario Bros. 6 is a Super Mario clone by a user named DeftFunk. He made a pretty decent engine for this game, and everyone had a positive point of view on this game. I played it, and what did I get? 6 rehashed levels (Get it? Because it's called Super Mario Bros. 6?) and a couple of originals. I was disappointed. No offense, but that is how I feel about this game.

Pros +It has walljumping...
+Decent engine
+Nicely implemented shop and minigame house
+Hammer powerup

Cons -...but it don't make me go very high, and I slide down too fast
-The first 6 levels were just rehashes of older Super Mario levels
-AGH THE GRAPHICS CLAAAAAAAAAASH
-Terrible camera

Gameplay
5 / 10
So you start the game, and there's a title screen that says Super Mario Bros. 6, obviously. There's also a saving system.

Then you start the game, and you hear a somewhat unfitting Super Mario 64 Bob Omb Battlefield MIDI for the mapscreen. You enter a level, and you enter 1-1 from SMB1, of all 1-1s. The next level is ALSO a 1-1 from my least favorite Mario game, Mario 3. And the next level is 1-1 from Super Mario Land. Then a level from Super Mario Land 2. I'm not sure if it's a 1-1. SML2 is a nonlinear game, though. Then Yoshi's Island 2 from SMW. It's technically 1-2, but since it's usually the first levels everyone plays, I'll count it as 1-1. Then there's a 1-1 from GOD ALMIGHTY SO MUCH CLASHING!!! OK, what I meant to say is a 1-1 from NSMB.

See the running theme here? No? The running theme here is 1-1. SMB1, SMB3, SML, and NSMB 1-1s.

You know how Super Mario Flashback (which you should REALLY play right now) remade levels, but isn't a direct port? Well, SMB6 directly ported levels with hidden Dragon Coins to collect. Yup. The first 6 levels are direct ports (with differing graphics, of course) of older levels. REHASHING.

On the other hand, the engine is pretty nice! Not the best I saw, but pretty good! The walljumping is a bit wierd, though, it barely gives me any height, and is it me or down I slide down really fast?

And now for the camera.
It's the worst camera I've seen in a looooooooooong while. It takes Mario to leave an entire screen to even catch up to Mario, and if a enemy is right outside of the camera boundary, Mario will take a hit/die.

I like how the shop and minigame house is implemented, though. Shops allow you to buy items, and minigame houses allow you to get items via minigames. The way the shop is implemented is that you use coins to buy items and you could either put the item on Mario, put it in your item storage, or put it in the other space in your item storage. As for minigame houses, you get into a certain position. Then you wait for the items to fall, and you have to grab one of them.

Speaking of items, there is a new item. The hammer. Now other than the engine and Toad houses, this item is my favorite item in this game. It's pretty well implemented. If Mario is on the ground, he will whack the ground with his hammer. If he is in the air, though, he will throw the hammer like a Hammer Bro would.

Ok-ish.

Graphics

Graphics clash, graphics clash,
clashing all the way!
Oh what fun it is to clash
in a hundred year old game

OK, sorry about that. It's already December, so it's somewhat reasonable.

So the graphics. CLASHY CLASH CLASH CLASH. Lets see...SMW Mario, SMW2 Yoshi, SMB3 All Stars Goomba, SMB3 NES pipes, Custom SMW2 style Koopa Bros., AND A LOT MORE CLASHING.

If this was made in 2002-2003, I'd forgive it much more, but this was made in 2011, where everyone got their crud together and started sticking to one style!

Bad.

Sound
4 / 10
It's a mix of MIDIs and MP3s. The MP3 is the NSMB level, and the midis everything else.

Sound effects consists of generic Mario sounds, Mario voice clips from SM64, and
Modern Yoshi voice clips.

Not very good.

Replay
1 / 10
Well, I only played it twice to refresh my memory on the rehashed levels.

There isn't any reason to come back for me.

Final Words
4 / 10
This game is overrated. Dead serious. DeftFunk, I know you tried to make a good Super Mario clone, but PLEASE, PLEASE, if you ever considering coming back to this and if you ever come back, try again.
