General Commentary and Game Overview
Wow, has it been a while. I haven't made a review in over a year and it's already almost 2018. Jeez, where has time gone?

Anyway, I guess I'll just be reviewing this game now. I...I don't really know what to say here actually, just on with the review...

Pros +Solid engine
+Great graphics
+Good music choices
+Good level design

Cons -Incredibly short--yes, I do know it's a pre-demo

Gameplay
8 / 10
It's your average Mario game. You can run and jump around the level squashing enemies, getting power ups and collecting star coins. It serves its purpose well. Mario's physics are close to Super Mario Bros. 3's, which I have grown fond of now, don't worry, thanks to the use of the Gatete Mario Engine 8.5.

Having options like screen size and bindable controls is good, although it's really just a feature of the engine used, but it is darn convenient.

As I said before, I think the player physics of the Gatete Mario Engine 8.5 are pretty solid. If you known that I existed the first few days I joined, I really hated Super Mario Bros. 3's physics, but I have since then grown up...*shudders* I don't want to remember how seriously immature I was back then. Mario feels like he has weight to him and he never feels too slippery or too stiff to control, and jumping, albeit somewhat floaty, feels good to pull off.

Of course, the design of the one and only level in the game is also good as well. Nothing feels overly complex or frustrating, nor does it introduce too many or too little level mechanics in the game. It's a perfect balance that serves its purpose well as a first level in the entire game. Hopefully, when the game does eventually get complete, it'll have a great difficulty curve and doesn't suddenly get super difficult on one level or have it constantly fluctuate. Although, I can't say what to expect considering how little of the game is being shown right now.

My only real problem with the gameplay is that the camera is slightly flawed. Mario never stays in the center of the screen when you're moving through the level, nor does the camera adjust itself so that you can see what's coming ahead of you better. When Mario is moving, you can't see what's coming ahead of you as well as you can see what's coming behind you. This never really hindered the game at all for me, but it's definitely something to consider especially if you're gonna get to making the later levels, Superfly.

The gameplay kind of is generic right at the moment, but I really can't complain right now. Not because I want to sugarcoat everything, it's just that, once again, too little of the game is shown for me to draw any conclusions.

Overall, 8/10 on the Gameplay.
Good level design, solid engine, and it does everything a Mario game should do very well, but the camera is slightly flawed. Very short though, which comes from it being a pre-demo.

Graphics
10 / 10
This game has some darn good eye-candy, I'll say. The sprites are very colorful, yet not to the point of blinding, and detailed. The parallax-scrolling backgrounds in the level are especially pleasant and done very well.

The map has a rather basic layout but the scenery for the map is quite nice looking. I don't really have much else to say for the graphics other than "it looks very nice," though.

Overall, 10/10 on the Graphics.
Great, colorful, and detailed spritework with pleasing use of parallax-scrolling backgrounds.

Sound
7 / 10
As for the music, I'd say the choice of it is pretty good. Most of the tracks seem to be good remixes of Mario tracks, although the music in the first level is not what you'd expect to hear in a Mario fangame. Not to say that's a bad thing though, in fact, I think it's a very good idea to have variety in music sources and it isn't just generic Mario remixes. Just as long as it fits with the situation, it'll steer well with me.

As for the sound, I don't really have anything much to say. Most of the sound effects are generic Mario sounds. Although there are also SMA Mario voice lines that come from Mario when he does things like getting a powerup, but it's so quiet compared to everything else that I don't think anyone should get annoyed or worked up about it.

Overall, 7/10 on the Sound.
Very nice music choices, but generally uninteresting and generic sound effect choices.

Replay
1 / 10
I think it's obvious that this game has next to no replay value. It is an incredibly short pre-demo with only a single level and a few star coins. There isn't too much to come back to in the level either since it's pretty linear and basic for the most part. But really, you can't expect much from a pre-demo. I wouldn't let this affect the game's score.

Final Words
8 / 10
It's a game that does have potential to be a good Mario game. Very good gameplay, amazing graphics, good music choices, but little reason to come back to the game at the moment.
