General Commentary and Game Overview
This is probably the most anticipated Mario fangame based on a holiday around, and in spite of coming a few months too early for Halloween, it was well-received and definitely worth the wait.

Pros -tons of secrets and unlockables -excellent engine, supporting many of Mario's moves and classic items -well-designed levels

Cons -bizzare story, even for a Halloween game -a few iffy areas in the level design

Impressions
Gameplay
9 / 10
This is almost as good as you can get with fangames. There are few flaws in the engine as I can see, and it has tons of features. There's the triple-jump from Mario 64, the wall-kick, the fireball, the shell kick... all done so well that it's hard to tell this apart from the real thing. Of course, an engine is nothing without good level design, but the game does not disappoint in this area. There are only a few instances when I felt annoyed about having to use a triple-jump or a wall kick, but for the most part the gameplay was smooth.

Graphics
10 / 10
The graphics are great. This isn't only because the onscreen sprites and tiles look good together and create an authentic Halloween feel, but also because of how the game is presented. The introduction cutscene, the map screen, the title, all of it is so well done that the game really feels official. The only things that feel remotely out of place are the Super Mario 64 icons on the HUD. Otherwise, great.

Sound
8 / 10
In spite of the supposed reduction in quality, the sounds and music all sound good. However, there are a lot of Mario voice samples in this, which have been overused for so long that I can't help but take a few points off for that, even though they are more appropriate than usual in a game that incorporates Super Mario 64 elements.

Replay
9 / 10
Loads of secrets and unlockables, as well as a superb main quest make this one fangame you'll keep on your hard drive for a long time.

Final Words
9 / 10
A great Halloween treat that is definitely worth your time.
