Super Mario All Stars: Battle Royale
preview
By: GameStar18
A frantic party game for up to four players where you battle it out SMB1, 2, or 3 style in a couple of different versus modes, or go against a few bosses from each game in some boss battle modes (also up to four players)! There was more I planned on adding, but simply didn't have time. Please be sure to read the F1 info! Feedback is appreciated.
Completion: Full Game Genre: Action
Franchise: Mario

This is pretty cool :D I have to say, though, it is a shame that the second player has to use the number pad. I can't play versus on a laptop then. Maybe you should let us change the controls around (and if we already can, how do you do that? :P)

oh, yes. Please please PLEASE have an option to change the controls around - The controls for one-player mode are HORRENDOUS. Of course, you might've already moved on to Unity3d, but still, when you get the chance, MAKE CUSTOMIZABLE CONTROLS.

I'd review it if I had any idea what to do when fighting Bowser boss battle.

It's great concept, but it could be better executed. I think adding CPU player in would make this a bit more fun, and perhaps netplay. If you can't do netplay, just try CPUs.

You should have just made Info as a selectable button. My F1 key sucks.

And because I can't access the info, I have absolutely no idea how to play other than walking and jumping.

You guys can just use XPadder. it lets you use your gamepad controller to act as the keyboard. of course you will have to set it yourself though

Hey guys, thanks for all the feedback! Glad you guys like it and I apologize to those of you who don't like the controls. They worked well for me but I guess it doesn't for everyone. Yeah as YoshiGamer said, use a program like XPadder (I use Joy2Key) to setup the controls to a gamepad. That will allow you to have customizable controls. I am not quite sure how to make all the controls customizable and don't have time to figure out how to implement another screen that allows you to do it (since I am not sure how that would work either exactly). It seems no matter what I do for controls, not everyone is ever satisfied :/ I made player two use the numpad so player one and two had some room and planned on 3 and 4 to use a gamepad.

Yeah I did originally plan on having CPU players but I was really rushed and when I tried figuring out how to make them work in each game type it became too much of a headache and I couldn't figure out how they would react. Online I wasn't sure of on how that would work either.

As for the Bowser battle, I am pretty sure I have all of the instructions in the F1 info if you guys missed it. Jump on the hammer behind him, and for SMB3 bowser you need to throw the blue blocks that appear at him.

Hey SMBMM, if you still need help with what the controls are and whatever else, let me know. F1 is Game Maker's default info window

Online I wasn't sure of on how that would work either.

Well, there's two online systems I would absolutely recommend. There is 39dll, which is basically a complex way of making online in Game Maker very functional. There's also Faucet Networking, which I've never tried before, but from what I've heard of it, it's very simple.

I just tried the game but the controls were terrible . I'm sorry I just couldn't really play it. If you would give the option to change controls at least then the game will be playable for me. Sorry about that.

Ok so another reminder for people who keep mentioning the controls, I explained time, and time again why I made the controls the way they are. Did you read my F1 info file? You can play it fine because I can, my friends can, so you can :) Remember, if you don't like them, please use a joypad and download Joy2Key (http://www.electracode.com/4/j...h%20Version.htm) and configure them to the joypad however you like. If you need help setting it up I will gladly help you. For player one and two they are on opposite sides of the keyboard so two people can share a keyboard easier, while p3 and p4 need to use a joypad. I tried to give them all enough space in between players. I don't know how to create your own controls setup for Game Maker as I mentioned before. I am working with Unity now which makes that so much easier so expect it in the future.

I just played through the game again and I have no problem using my controls on the keyboard. Using Joy2Key makes it even better, cheers!

There is a one player mode, if that is what you are asking. It is for the boss battle mode where you fight all of the bosses in order. For regular battles, fraid not. But I plan on having it for my next game as it will be online although that's for Unity 3D.

I think the big problem with this game is that I am fighting the controls more than I am fighting another player or a boss.
