I almost wish reviews were also deleted when games are, because now I really want to check this one out for myself but can't.

I think I still have a download of it on my old hard drive. If I find it I'll DM you on Discord with it lol

It briefly inspired me at a point in time. I don't stand by everything I wrote in this review because I was still pretty young but the gist of it I agree with - it's a trippy experience.

EDIT: Okay so... I got this confused with a totally different fan game I did a review of around the same time haha. It was a very weird almost creepypasta-esque Luigi fan game that also got taken off the site after I reviewed it. I might have this one too though? Honestly? I'd have to go look but I probably do.

Hm, does this work with Windows 7? I might have to try this out with some Game Maker 6 games someday.

It even works with Windows 10, I've discovered! Just thought I'd let you know that some odd 2 years later.

Hey, I'd say go for it if you have the time and energy to. I actually re-reviewed Mario's Mansion 3 about a year ago for basically the same reason: my old review was shoddy, devoid of meaningful commentary, and was mainly just me going "it's great! but it's unfinished =(", which left a lot to the imagination.

Of course, I left the older review up - mainly for historical record. But also for some transparency: I reviewed this game when I was younger, and it wasn't a very good review. So here, enjoy two reviews for the price of one! Which is still free, I guess.

Great review! Yeah, this game is very original and really fun to play! In retrospect, I might have actually been too harsh with my review. At first glance, these old fangames may seem very cheap. After playing so many of them, however, a lot of them are actually very creative, pretty fun, and funny! I've discovered gems like Yoshi vs. Windows, Mario's Mansion, Super Mario PC (the French one), Mario vs Luigi 2, and Toad Strikes Back (the prototype -- the full game is also really good and has a lot of the oldschool fangame charm, but I played that much earlier)! I'm sure there's still more I have yet to play (looking forward to Super Mario Epic 2)! Speaking of Super Mario Epic 2, I think Jeff Silvers described the classic fangame spirit very well in his review for Super Mario vs New Wario Order World Tour:

"This game comes from a time where much more focus was put into simple fun than having a beefy engine."

You just listed off some of my favourite fangames of all time! I also want to belatedly thank you for helping me overcome the Mario PC hurdle that I mentioned in my ancient review of it (where I got stuck on a World 2 level), and I was playing through more of it the other day. Great stuff!

I think that half the fun in playing old fangames is sticking through with a not-so-perfect engine in a game that oozes with charm. It's a very rewarding experience, in my eyes.

I didn't say it was atrocious. I just didn't know what to do. It's probably a very good game.

Did you try like... hitting any other buttons? The premise of the game is that you can switch between Mario and Wario, and that some blocks and obstacles become passable depending on who you play as. By default, the switching mechanic is the 'S' button I believe, and when you're Wario the 'A' button lets you do his dash attack. You can map it both to the same button though, if you prefer

Admittedly the premise is a bit underdeveloped, but I haven't touched this since 2013, so you know.

And yes, I'm aware you didn't literally come out and say you thought the game was terrible, but you singled it out as your only negative in your otherwise glowing 10/10 review. It just struck me as a bit mean spirited, is all. I don't even harbour much personal attachment to it anymore, but M+W has been beaten down by various people over the years, so I've come to expect it to be disregarded/disproportionately hated.

Mario + Wario™ Complete makes absolutely no sense.

People have compared it to Mighty Switch Force, which I was unfamiliar with at the time of making it.

I'm slightly a little disheartened that my entire, singular contribution to this anniversary thing - which mind you, I did just as a little celebration of MFGG's history and turning 20, which is quite a big achievement - is the only thing you thought was bad enough to put into the "cons" list.

Maybe I shouldn't have bothered sharing a build of this game after all, if it's truly that atrocious.

Oh this is the sickest idea I've ever seen. More sequels to obscure old fangames, that's all I'll ever ask for.

I'll definitely check this out in the near future.

Oh! I just found out about your review. Here are my thoughts.

TGF still holds a lot of charm for me, and it's unexplainable, like a kind of magic. Glad to know someone else can appreciate it!

Due to being the author, I thought the game was pretty easy. I suppose the time it took to charge the dash was my time thinking how this game is awesome. It's not.

Glitches aside, I've heard many times the charge mechanic and slow pace were definite buzzkills.

To be honest, the plan was to make Castlevania-style game. That is why it was intentionally slow, but as development continued and the heat of the deadline began to burn my eyes (due to lack of sleep), it just sort of boiled down to whatever I could muster for a 8-day Game Jam!

Among the many people that played my game and shared their criticisms, I'm grateful to hear your side because you can appreciate The Ye Olde Games Factory and what charm it holds.

Yes, it is easy to say this game sucks but you took the extra mile to tell me what went wrong, with criticism to boot!

Thanks for the review, Vitiman.

Not a problem! I'm sorry if I came across as too critical or anything, but I really did find the game's flaws more evident than easy-to-ignore. That said, you've taken the critique like a champ it seems, and that much is respected and appreciated.

Yes yes, I've been prowling the site for years now reviewing a bunch of old fangames. I even tried making my own old fangame throwback last year, but it seems making anything in The Games Factory is an uphill battle. It was totally worth it in my vain attempt to pay homage, though.

The Clickteam Revolution will eventually happen, not to worry... one day. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe 3 years from now. But one day!

If all else fails, these games are pretty un-resource intensive, so you could go into unnecessary territory and rig up a virtual machine to play them (like I did). There really aren't enough old fangames on the site that are 16-bit only to justify doing this, but it was primarily a goal of insanity that brought me to that solution, rather than anything reasonable.

Haha! I like how his fireball shooting animation is a reference to Dragon Ball... or was it Street Fighter?

Hey, why not both? 😉

I've considered compiling a version of the game that isn't authentically retro (as in, made in an application that doesn't date back to the year 1996), but I haven't really had a lot of time to. I'll consider it one day, probably.

I've bumped into the infamous sound glitch in Toad Strikes Back (the full version) once or so, and I think that game is made in Multimedia Fusion (I could be wrong, though).

Maybe consider looking into how you do the sounds in-game? I dealt with the glitch in this game several times, while in other TGF games, I rarely get the glitch.

There really isn't many ways to "do" sounds in old Clickteam other than triggering them with events. The only thing I can think of that would routinely cause this glitch to occur is the "independent machine speed" option I may have left on by accident, so it might require turning that off for maximum not-dumb.

I want to play it, but TGF is so bugged that the sound loops and the game freezes. :( Disappointing because it looks great!

I am very looking into this, I've had many people encounter this issue, I'm trying to see the best method of resolving it, I might have to recompile it either way. I was looking into CF2.5, but the platform engine was changed so much by then that it's hard to even play the game in that. Now I'm considering MMF 1.5 as the platform engine should be identical to TGF in that, but I worry if the sound glitch will still crop up in that or not...

These are very creative takes on Wario! I really love how it draws influence from the earlier Wario sprites, where he looked a lot like a greedy maniac. Keep up the good work! =)

Hey, this is pretty cool! I used it to save level maps and look at sprites from Super Mario Pandemonium 2 and Legend of the Hammer Warrior, and I made some pretty cool discoveries!

It seems that it deleted itself eventually, along with the folder it's in (which has other stuff in it), however though. Are you sure that this is safe?

Unless something happened while I uploaded this, I have no reason to suspect that this file is a virus/malware. It still exists on my computer, and I confess to combing through older fangames a lot over the years so it certainly hasn't gone unused. Has your anti-virus mistaken it for malware and automatically removed it, maybe? That's the only thing I can think of.
