General Commentary and Game Overview
Revenge of the Walrus is a less-than-serious platform game by VinnyVideo. Your job is to break Mario out of his imprisonment by the evil Walruses (Walri?) and find out why all of this happened.

Pros - Very nice presentation
- OGG music
- Lots of replay value
- Levels have some variety

Cons - Controlling Mario feels different than other fangames
- Small, but noticeable glitches/problems

Gameplay
8 / 10
Revenge of the Walrus is a platform game, although there are a bunch of gameplay elements from various Mario games in this game, as well as some custom ones. I would even go as far to say that this game feels like a "Super Mario Bros. 4" to me. The levels are varied, the bosses have some thought put into them, and Mario controls well.

The way Mario controls may be a problem for some though. Its not that Mario controls badly at all; The "feel" of Mario's movements are comparable to SMB3. However, this may be difficult for people to deal with at first, because this is the only fangame I've played where Mario controls this way. In other words, I had gotten used to the way Mario controlled in so many other fangames, and the feel of Mario in this game was different enough that I had to get used to it. This really isn't a problem nor is it Vinny's fault, but it is worth mentioning.

There are also some small, but noticeable problems in the game. They also all seemed to all pop up around the Dolphin level. For one thing, it seemed incredibly hard to actually land on the dolphins. I would instead end up falling through them for some reason. This didn't make the level unplayable by any means, but because of this I would end up falling in the water. Falling in the water is a problem, because it is overly difficult to jump back out of the water. Mario's jump isn't quite high enough to reach the land, and you have to end up holding the ctrl key in order to make the jump, but sometimes that doesn't even work.

The biggest problem was a surprising one. Sometimes, whenever I would clear a level, the level completion wouldn't register, and I'd have to beat the level again. I don't know if it was my computer, but this happened to me three times in three different levels, and was incredibly frustrating.

These are the only problems with the game though, and I'll say some positive things now that I've finished nitpicking. The game as a whole is quite good. There's a large assortment of enemies throughout the levels. The levels are all different enough, and some levels have their own "gimmicks" that make them unique. Also, Vinny included elements from SMB3 that I love, and that I haven't seen in any other fangame (namely, the "Course Clear Cards" and those bug dudes that throw blocks at you). The game has a professional feel to it, and Vinny did a very good job with programming the game.

Graphics
8 / 10
What I hate is that the tiles and backgrounds are very high quality. They are from the New SMB games, and they look very nice. The sprites, however, are from or look similar to SMAS graphics. These sprites clash noticeably with the tiles, and make the game look worse than it should. I'm not one to really care about graphics in a game, but I wish different style sprites were used.

Sound
9 / 10
The sound is really nice. You get to hear some classing Mario tunes, along with some other songs that I've never heard before. They are all nice, OGG quality sounds, and they all have that "Mario" feel to them. The sound effects are the sounds you'd expect from a Mario game, but the quality of the sound helps make the game enjoyable.

Replay
10 / 10
There is a lot of replay value in the game. There are a large amount of levels, and the bosses all have some variety and fun in them. There are hidden red coins in each level, as well as a rather large Achievement system. In fact, I only know of one other fangame that has included an achievement feature.

Final Words
8 / 10
Despite the small problems, this is a strange and enjoyable game. You know its a good game when the loading screen makes you laugh.
