General Commentary and Game Overview
This game is so good that I will target it's weak points because the strong points are better experienced while actually playing and finishing the main adventure.

Asking for side content that isn't really related to a pure Super Mario Bros. 2 style may seem unfair... yet with great quality comes great demand and since this game is fantastic with the core and heart of the platforming genre- it's only missing the extra bonus of distraction that can only be filled by mini-games, sport, and side stories.

Otherwise this is a very complete game and should not be treated as anything less than a phenomenal masterpiece of freeware.

Pros Platforming is absolutely good and clever.
Character dialogue = short quality story.
Weapon system is incredibly polished.
Level design and rewards are refreshing.
Hubs and Level selection are very open.

Cons Good bosses but miss the big epic feel.
Story is so good... could use more of it.
Needs foes that 'smart block and shoot'.
Could use more distracting side content.
Some levels too linear- need more paths.

Impressions
Gameplay
9 / 10
Level design is usually linear yet contains good obstacles, clever courses, several open hubs, well placed collectables and solid platforming... It just needs much more side content than just unlockable bonus levels.

Graphics
10 / 10
Absolutely cohesive and polished to the last character... the 2-D 90's at it's best taking from classic backgrounds layered with two-toned color filters means this game is beautiful to look at.

Sound
10 / 10
It doesn't get any better than this... lots of remixes and remastered sounds- if this review is going to be fair and judge not by style but by variety, quality, choice, and execution... then this deserves a solid '10'.

Replay
8 / 10
If it only had side-quests, more sub-plots, stories of other kingdoms, mini-games, and maybe an in-game sport... otherwise only option is to replay levels or replay story on a new file; no complaints about level variety.

Final Words
9 / 10
Why play Toad Strikes Back again? Toadette so absolutely outshines itself that calling this a 'sequel' is an injustice to it's quality... It stands alone.
