This upcoming weekend, from the 6th to the 7th, MFGG is now officially hosting a really incredible Game Jam that longtime member Roo came up with on the forums and it's pretty great. We're gonna make old-timey retro fangames! Because kids, children, children of men, it's the brand new but ironically pretty old:![]() If you're unfamiliar with a game jam, the concept is simple: during this particular weekend, anyone who wants to will hop onto their game making programme of choice (in this case, I strongly recommend downloading The Game's Factory and fiddling around in that given the spirit of this) and tries to make something that fits as best with the theme as possible. You can find more details at the forum thread Roo made for this, but the gist is quite simple: make a dumb video game mimicking fangaming's hilarious, bizarre & borderline surreal past. You need examples? Well, Roo provided plenty in the thread post, but if you need more, just go to our very own Games section and go to the very last page and just scroll through them backwards until the games start hitting about 2005 or so. Anything within that time frame is probably a good example of what you could do, and we highly encourage exaggerating it to the fullest extent - or you can be mundanely authentic, it's really up to you! The only main objective is to capture that vibe, and there are better worded approaches to this in the thread post, so yet again I direct most people to go there. Typically with game jams and stuff, you're supposed to do it within the time span, but (and I don't know if this is common practice) it appears Roo is fine with people making their game in advance. Granted, that's still not a lot of time! The jam starts this Saturday, so you only have a week to do something if you want! Or you can procrastinate like I probably will and only have the weekend, it's really up to you. ALSO, as a public service announcement, My Submissions seems to be bugging out for some people. If this persists for you, you may have to clear your browser cache to fix the issue. This will very likely log you out of anywhere you're logged in, be warned. If that doesn't work and you're still having issues, please message the Site Staff! We want to help you get back to submitting great content and good times! Now that we've got that all grabbed out, let's enjoy some of MFGG's fine newer fangames Recent Additions Games

I feel like... I'm probably forgetting something. OH, right! Super Mario Maker 2 is out, go play that! I've been playing it a lot myself, and it's great fun. Go enjoy that, child! Come back when you have great levels to share and good times to cherish! We might also be having a level competition for it in the near future, who knows? ;) |

Super Mario Maker 2 was my dream game back in 2006, and I'm so happy it's finally a reality. Looking to join this year's game jam. If only I can find my old copy of The Games Factory laying around.
