is my mana upgrading? in the Stats menu it doesn't show any progress even tho i upgraded it with my points. Mana: 1/8

Can you send me a gif of you upgrading your Mana and the menu not changing? I'll be able to help more quickly and release a patch if this is the case. Also your MP bar doesn't get bigger when you upgrade your MP, it only decreases the cost of spells. There are items hidden in the overworld that make your MP bar larger.

EDIT: Actually, nevermind, I just checked this myself. You MP IS upgrading, but there's a glitch that is causing the number not to update.

Why don't you share it on Itch.io?

It is on Itch.io, as a matter of fact. I posted it there before I posted it here.

For some reason the updates log cut off some of the updates that 1.4.1 has

• Added a one-time tutorial that explains how to upgrade your stats after leveling up. This has been a common source of confusion
• Added the ability to level up/reduce cooldown time of your dodges, and also added a dodge cooldown indicator
• Minor balance adjustments

This game is mad cool and the music is sick! I kinda wish it had a Kirby running mechanic or something similar in addition to the dash mechanic. I also think it'd be cool if the game's controls worked with keyboard as well as controller if both are plugged in, but tbf I didn't mess with the options at all, though I guess this could be used to a cheating advantage, idk.

Thanks!
You can play with a keyboard if a controller is plugged in btw. Pause the game, go to the settings menu (the cog icon), and select View Controls. From here, press CTRL.

Just started playing the game a few days ago and I really loved it! I have one question though. Is chapter 2 either still on hiatus, being worked on or it's cancelled.

It is cancelled unfortunately.

This looks simply fantastic. I have a real soft spot for the Super Show, esp those cheesy live segments with Captain Lou

Hi! I wanted to use the Mario sprites in the game in creating a skin for Mario in "Sonic Boll". I'm not representing the team but the game has a great modding community and I'm part of it. If these aren't your sprites, may you redirect me to the person to who they belong to?

I'll credit you for being the person who created the sprites and I'll give a shoutout and link to your game if you want to.

They're just color edits of the sprites from Super Mario All-Stars: Super Mario Bros 3. You can find them here on this site

Where is the third star coin in World 4-4 (the tower level) and how do I get it?

Due to an unfortunate mistake on my part it is unattainable. However, you can still unlock everything the game has to offer without collecting it

The game seems really good and pretty so far. IDK if it's just my laptop or whatever, but i'm getting a LOT of lag in this demo, more than i've gotten in really any 2d game I've played on my laptop

Your statement
Quote (TheTwelthRocket)
don't go crying to me saying that 6 is an understatement, because there is plenty from keeping it from a 10
is quite honestly the most generalizing statement I've read in a while :y What do you think I am, a 12 year old who can't take constructive criticism, or heck even a 6? Of course not lol. I'm an adult who's been through criticism much harsher than this and I took it just as well as I took this :v A 6 is on the upper half of a 5 so it could've been much worse. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and this review is exactly that: your opinion. Regardless I still see some errors in your review and aim to address them, but I am by no means attacking you or this review, for as I just stated, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I merely feel a slight need to defend this work of mine and address some things that stand out in your review to me.

Giving only Mario the ability to walljump was supposed to be a throwback to super mario 64 DS, and to give him a way to reach star coins that only luigi may have been able to get. It would also be a tool with which to avoid death if you fell down death pits. And personally I like the idea of Mario and Luigi both having their own unique skills more than both of them sharing the wall jump ability. If Luigi had both this and his flutter jump, mario would be a heck of a lot less unique wouldn't he? Just a shorter red luigi without the flutter jump and better traction

Yes, the game is a retelling of SMB1, which implies artistic liberties and creative freedoms were taken, not a remake, which implies a borderline 1:1 replica of the original, with improvements added. It may just be my poor way of handling words or I'm just tired because it's 1:15 AM in my area right now, but just from my point of view, I think you were expecting something entirely different than what you got, or perhaps I'm wrong and you were expecting something far grander as a result of all the praise this game has been subject to, both of which naturally would lead to disappointment if your expectations are not met.

The cutscenes were added because initially there was to be a story arc connecting chapters 1-3, and quite honestly, a lack of story bores me, and I chose to break tradition in some ways and make a mario story similar how I had always interpreted them when I was a child. The only problem was of course not being able to skip the cutscenes. The way I had designed the cutscenes would have made it impossible to skip them without glitching up level progression, and by the time I thought of a fix I had already finished the final level and boss, and it would have taken a nightmare of re-writing code and fixing another large list of glitches that was still growing larger as I tested more and more.

I openly admit the wall jump could have been done better. It was my first attempt at including wall jump mechanics and it came out "fine" I'll just say, but even then I knew it could be better, but I did not know at the time how to improve upon it so I left it as-is.

I honestly am sorry to hear you did not enjoy the level designs, as I spent quite a bit of time on each level (entirely scrapping some designs that were 100% complete and doing them over from scratch because I felt they would not be satisfactory), making each one feel fresh, look pretty, etc., but hey you can't please them all. The level designs were made with moderately skilled players in mind, so the difficulty was meant to feel average, and become harder as you progressed. But that leads us to the only part of my response that is critical of your review:

You really should have made a better attempt to either finish the game or at least play more than the first 12 level, and no, I'm not going to say "you would have enjoyed it more had you gone further" lololol it's obvious you didn't enjoy what you played so I'm not going to suggest you

Those are old, early in-development videos. I had initially planned to go on hiatus after chapter 1 was completed but decided to go ahead and work on chapter 2. A few months later I then put the entire series on hiatus and now the chapter system has been decidedly scrapped. (as I've said before though, Odyssey is not canceled and when I revive it it'll be under a new name most likely)

I kept the videos up though because people liked them and I was proud with how they came out x3 Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Thanks. I can't wait for Chapter 2. Also, do you think you could add customizable controls. Sticky Keys keeps coming up when Press Shift and Ctrl.

Unfortunately Ch2 won't happen. I've scrapped the "chapter" system I had in mind and SMBO's on hiatus while I work on another project. SMBO is not canned however. I plan to revive SMBO at some point in the future, but it will include assets and some ideas I had planned for SMBO ch.2.

I may add customizable controls to it when I pick it back up; this game is no longer my current focus. I can offer you a tip on the Sticky keys though. Next time the message comes up, click on the text that says

"Go to the ease of access center to disable the keyboard shortcut"

it should open a window with a few options/check boxes. Uncheck the one that says somehting like "turn on sticky keys when SHIFT is pressed 5 times"

that should fix the issue :P

What would happen if I modernized the sprites before extracting all the files? would the game break, or would it not open?

Just as long as you:

+don't rename the files
+don't resize the sprite canvases
+don't move them
+don't move the sprites around their canvases

it should run fine

Everyone's making How-Tos for Game Maker 8 and Studio! Isn't that dandy? (not)

To be fair, GM8.x and Studio are what most MFGGers are using right now, so this is to be expected :P
