That's amazing. Speaking of which, is it possible to port other Mario 64 hacks to the PC port? I've been loving the PC port so much, I think all hackers should port their stuff to the PC port, it just looks so much better. I would love to see Star Road and Last Impact ported to the PC.

It's not, unfortunately, at least not easily. You can port hacks made using the decompliation easily but assembly hacks like Star Road and Last Impact would require rewriting all the code.

Yeah this isn't the most creative submission out there, nor the one with the most effort put into it, but as said it's pretty much how Nintendo would also add a mountain theme to the game, so I guess it doesn't really offend me.

I just wish that it had more original elements.

I remember there being multiple attempts ar MFGGers making their own adult Marios, NO Body's one is especially quite iconic to me.

So in that sense it's kind of sad to get an official adult YI Mario now, it really was fun to see everyone's different interpretations.

Patch file isn't compatible with the OG rom. Especially since XDELTA patch files aren't for Z64 roms.

Maybe get a better ROM then, if it wasn't compatible others wouldn't be able to get it running.

I ended up going through the comments and deleting some of them.

You guys need to understand one thing, joking is fine, having a negative opinion is fine, but once it becomes straight up mocking Hello with no actual commentary on the game itself, then it becomes toxic. Just keep that in mind.

None of the comments were too bad but still, let's keep the discussion focused on the game.

You are going to score and bash the game as if it's the worst game on the site specifically because it's not up to your standards when he only has 3 3D games to his belt?

It's... It's a review. Of course, I'll review a game based on my standards, my tastes. It's my opinions after all. You might think the game isn't that bad and just mediocre. That's fine, but it's not fact.

Quote (Pedigree on May 22 2020, 1:49 AM)
Have you tried your hand at making a 3D game?

Yes.

I made this in 3 days with a friend
https://mors-games.itch.io/sosig

I've been working on this for a while
https://twitter.com/MorsGames/status/1255151415212699649

Does it matter tho? Can't I criticize another game if I never made a similar game before? What kind of logic would be that?

Quote (Pedigree on May 22 2020, 1:49 AM)
Like you said he's made a game that's pretty good just recently, with you rating it 8/10, so even your claim that he's been making shitty games for so long that it's unforgivably is really questionable to me.

It's 2 games in like 50 mediocre to bad games. And I never even once implied that they were ALL bad.

I honestly can't tell if you're legit having trouble understanding what I'm saying, or trying to twist my words to make me look incoherent. This happened so many times when we had a disagreement and I'm sick of it.

Quote (Pedigree on May 22 2020, 1:49 AM)
It's a mediocre game by all counts, but it's only his third attempt at a 3D Mario game. You're lucky that he doesn't allow you all to phase him, or you'd be in another one of your long game droughts on the site and would have scared away yet another developer with your bullshit.

This is the shit that makes people sad about what MFGG used to be compared to what it has become. Good luck to y'all.

The game drought isn't because we criticize bad games, it's because Nintendo is scaring people from making fangames lmao

The game is pretty mediocre, but still is leagues above what many of these sniveling people up in the comments have managed to produce. 0/10 or -2/10 review scores? Give me a break. If only the staff didn't enable the mobs with pitchforks every time Hello releases a game, like some of this shit in the comments is just flat out flaming.

The fact that Hello still releases games on your site despite the toxic way he is treated is beyond me. I do not understand it.

The fact that Hello still releases the same kinds of games on this site despite all the criticism he gets is what's beyond me. He's been here for god knows how many years, this is his 3rd game, yet there are barely any improvements here. Heck in areas this game is worse than Prism. Do you think if we talk nicely to him he will understand? No, he obviously won't, that was my reasoning with the 0/10 review, to give him a wake up call. If you read the actual review you could tell that it's not just mindless bashing the game too, it's my genuine opinions on the game.

I didn't intend it to become people just giving the game negative reviews, in fact that wasn't what I wanted. I even had to manually intervene so the overall score doesn't go below 0, or tell people not to attack Hello directly (at least on Discord), since this is not supposed to be us mindless bashing of the game. We aren't harsh here because we want to bully Hello, we are harsh because we are frustrated, and this game becomes completely insane at times.

Do I think that the comments get way too harsh? Yeah, definitely, I think people went a bit too far with the whole thing, and Hello definitely did not deserve as much negative backlash as he did, but it's not blind hate.

Quote (Pedigree on May 21 2020, 7:37 PM)
If the game is legit as bad as some of the staffers make it out to be in the above reviews, why on earth even accept the game? I guess even a bad game can be good for web traffic.

What? We didn't accept the game to get traffic lol, it wouldn't even be a good move because it hurts the perception of the site.

We accepted this game because in a vacuum it's not THAT terrible. Looking it at in a completely objective perspective, it's not the worst game here on the site. But looking into it with the context of Hello being around for so long, and this being his 3rd 3D game, yeah I kinda hate it, sorry.

Quote (Pedigree on May 21 2020, 7:37 PM)
Even so, you would have at least spared Hello from the horde of trolls if you had declined it instead.

Which trolls? If you're referring to the people on the comments, I doubt their intention was to troll lol

Quote (Pedigree on May 21 2020, 9:46 PM)
He didn't listen to feedback so you guys have the right to talk about his wasted life and other dumb bullshit?

Who did? Where?

If someone's insulting Hello personally over this game then report it, don't just blame everyone for it. It's not like we really want to hate Hello. I gave Super Mario Eclipse 8/10 myself, I thought it was fun for what it was. I thought Yoshi Tanks was pretty good too, and I always praise it the chance I get. That's what actually frustrates me, and I'm sure many others, he's capable of making good games. If he didn't just take the surface level criticism, threw everything else away, and just released another game without sharing anything beforehand, asking for feedback before, or anything of that sort.

But yeah as I said, I also think that the comments have gotten way too far with all this. I'm not defending people being straight up mean to Hello, and actually I'd like to apologize to him on behalf of the staff for how bad it has gotten.

Hi Mors, any chance you can make available your changes as .patch files so we can apply it on the PC version too?

Someone else actually asked me if I was considering to make a fork so I will just quote my response from that.
Quote (Mors)
Im considering it but right now the PC port is too unstable, and I'm quite busy myself.

Not to mention that there's no way for us to distribute binaries that don't contain data from the original SM64 ROM, so even if I did port my hack I wouldn't be able to distribute it. I could, of course, just release the source, which is something I'm actually planning to, but most people wouldn't be able to play it regardless.

Once someone finds a way to dynamically load data from the ROM then I will create a fork with all the changes from my hack then more.

As for releasing it as a patch, the hack is, unfortunately, a bit too big for that.

My issue here is "poor quality game" is subjective, and you need an objective system for guidelines. "lack of effort" is extremely subjective as well.

True, I don't disagree that the rule can be defined in a more objective fashion, and I also agree that it's a rather subjective rule, but the whole "no bad games" rule is also pretty subjective, and we had that for years. I mean how do you determine a game as objectively bad? You can't. Then going by that logic we shouldn't do any quality control and accept all games that work. I know a lot of people would agree with this notion but personally speaking I wouldn't want this site to gain a reputation of a dumping ground for bad games.

Perhaps the whole submission rules could get a rewrite one day since I don't think it's really all that clearly written at times, but again that's my opinion.

Quote (Ostrich101 on Apr 4 2020, 8:07 AM)
So, does that mean that joke games which are like Mario 64: Really Good Edition will no longer be accepted?

That game has actual effort put into itself, we are talking about completely low effort games that have no real gameplay or merit to them.
Like, there's a difference between a game like Waligie, a game like Turd Feast, and a game like Mario Remastered.

The first one is just bad, that's the joke, which worked in 2005 (or whenever the game came out), the second one is a game that has bad visuals but has actual effort put into it, and the last one is kind of in-between where there isn't a ton of effort, but the game is different enough from the rest and isn't just "yet another bad game".

Quote (warioBoy94 on Apr 5 2020, 2:40 AM)
well then im not gonna be posting games on this site a lot. thanks mfgg!

If you actually put effort into your games and don't make them bad in the purpose of a joke without anything else for the game to rely on, then there's no reason for you to stop submitting games here.
