Pretty sure I've seen a 16-bit Mama already before. Other than that, it's pretty good.

Subpar is a more appropriate term to describe this work since the sprites are pillowshaded. Also cant seem to help notice that yours and his Imagjin sprites are strikingly similar to one another because of palette use (not counting the diffrence in shading methods of course) coincidentally.

They are very pillow shaded, but other than that they seem alright. The shading is horrible, though, and needs fixing.

Have any of you considered the possibility that the pillow shading gives the illusion of texture? For example, I like the way Mama's cloak is shaded because it makes the cloak look like it's made of silk, which is, perhaps, the material it's supposed to be made of. That's how I see it, anyway. Yes, the shading is pretty bad in most spots, but considering the clothing material an Arabian family would have at that time, there are spots where it actually looks alright.

Besides, there aren't that many sprites in this sheet. If you want to use them, but don't like the shading, just re-shade them yourself first. It's really not that hard.

that's not how it works. you clearly don't get exactly WHY pillowshading is bad.

pillowshading is when a sprite has shading with no real light source. it looks terrible and messy 100% of the time. there SHOULD be a light source with these sprites, but the author didn't feel like giving them one. and no, we shouldn't have to reshade them ourselves. that's stupid. the author should just fix them himself and update the sheet.

You clearly don't get what I was trying to say. I know what pillow shading is and why it ruins sprites. Had I not known, don't you think I would have asked? I was just saying that in THIS case, the pillow shading works IN SOME SPOTS, because to me, Mama's cloak, Papa's pants, and Lina's...hat...thing... look as if they are made of silk. It does NOT work in ALL spots, and therefore the sheet as a whole is subpar.

Well, whether or not you guys accept my opinion, just re-shade them yourself before using them, as I clearly stated before. There are very few sprites here, is it REALLY that hard to fix/edit?

But... how could it be okay, even in some spots, for there to be no light source? That really makes no sense. And saying "re-shade them yourself" is just really stupid. That's like someone submitting a completely horrible sheet and saying "fix the flaws yourself!". It really makes no sense. The author should fix the flaws in his own sheet no matter how small the sheet is, not us.
