Ha, a fair assessment! This game probably won't stay on the mainsite forever, but I might keep it around a bit longer as we refine our HTML5 game development - and hosting.

I use the same button sound in a few of my games, including Career Fantasy and Satilla Composite.

Legend has it that you might actually be able to escape if you get lucky enough...

@littlelum Thanks for reporting this issue - and feel free to let me know if there's a good solution, whether in the GM game's settings or with some configuration option on the MFGG server. I've had a few hiccups with the music as well.

@Q-Nova When playing GM browser games, I've had the best results with Chrome. Though even Chrome has occasionally been finicky with inputs.

@Astrakitu That's right, my friend! That is exactly the thing this test submission is testing.

@Vitiman Very punny, very punny!

I really enjoyed this! This is probably the best Zelda fangame I've played. I like the big world to explore and the wide variety of items.

I noticed a few bugs:

* The game crashes whenever an arrow hits obj_grass
* The sword sprite on the HUD shows a signpost sprite if Link is standing in range of a sign or other object you can talk to
* If you explore the Lost Woods without playing Saria's Song, Link will move out of the camera's range, probably forcing you to warp away or close the game
* I'm not sure if this is intentional, but it's annoying that the game automatically saves after you collect a Triforce piece but not after you collect a new item

Also, the Hookshot is overpowered compared to the Fairy Bow. The Hookshot does the same amount of damage as the Fairy Bow but doesn't have any cooldown - you can spam the Hookshot over and over again. In the official Zelda games, the Hookshot and its cousins are usually weak weapons for stunning enemies rather than defeating them.

Nitpicks aside, this is a great game that I highly encourage checking out.

@Kirby's Adventure Ha! It's never too late to respond to a comment from a decade ago.

@eliasisamazing I'm still an admin on another (small) forum I started. I also used to write video game guides at GameFAQs - that was fun!

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed this! I wasn't familiar with Vampire Survivors, but I definitely see some parallels - the gameplay sounds a lot like what Brains probably would've been if I'd expanded my game.

I will gladly accept the royalties.

Ha, I can't disagree with you here. Back in 2010, I was trying to move away from making games based on premade engines and spend more time experimenting with more original concepts. Every game is a learning experience, especially when you're still relatively new to making games, but unfortunately, this experiment did not produce stellar gameplay. This is one of the few old Vinny games that I've never updated - it has no game-breaking bugs, and I also have no idea how to make it more interesting!

And yes, I heartily support keeping our oceans and rivers and lakes and all that good stuff clean. Gooper Blooper is a very bad role model.

Welcome back to MFGG - it's nice to see you around again! You used to submit a lot of really cool stuff, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you have up your sleeve.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This was the first time I ever tried using GM 8.0's built-in particle effects. They're admittedly not the greatest, but at least I learned something from using them.

Much of the music comes from Seiken Densetsu 3 - when I made this game, I'd just finished playing SD3 for the first time. It had quite an awesome soundtrack.

I highly recommend playing through some old fangames. You might even have fun with a couple of 'em.

Maybe!

Wow, that's a blast from the past! This was one of the first fangames I ever played.

I can't say it's an amazing-quality game, though.

This is pretty cool! However, I encountered a bug: In the room where you're supposed to collect eight stars, it's possible to clip through the ceiling, which basically softlocks the game.

Heh heh. Ya gotta RUN when the Shurikin Cow is on your tail!

Paper Mario World is well-covered ground by now, but this is a fun and clever way to review this oft-reviewed game!

Quote (Vitiman)
"... The game uses built-in platform movement, but I'm not so against that. You can't stomp enemies, which annoys me (yeah, I know I committed the same crime in Super Mario Epic, back off). ..."

Jeff might very well be the only reviewer in the entire lot to actually acknowledge some degree of hypocrisy in his admonishing of PMW. He also is the only one to, while not exactly being 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥 to the game, does make an effort to provide legitimate criticisms and word things as directly and seriously as possible. For a review from 2004, this seems to be quite the rarity. Jeff Silvers was the OG VinnyVideo in that regard, we could say!

Aw, thanks! When I review games, I try to include some kind of concrete, constructive suggestion for improving the game. Even if the game's concept isn't that great, or if it's a brand-new developer who doesn't have much experience making games, I can almost always find something the developer could do to make the game better - something uncontroversial and within the developer's skill level. At least, that's what I try to do!

Quote (Vitiman)
Some of these reviews are out-of-this-world unfair and brutal, and reflect the writings of a website predominately populated by preteens and potty-mouths - the exact kind of people who could find an easy target and let it rip.

Yep! It's important to remember that most fangames are made by a single developer. Someone put a lot of time into making them - and they were kind enough to share them with us for free! Someone is probably proud of them - they're someone's baby! They might be an ugly baby that only knows how to cry, drool, and poop, but it's important to be gentle and helpful when providing critique. I think MFGG has improved in this regard over the years, but yeah, sometimes people reviewing games are more abrasive than they ought to be.

Since y'all mentioned it... Mario+Wario has good music and a great presentation! It's a fun and creative concept, but I could see how someone might find it to be a bit frustrating - I'd say it's the hardest of the games included in this pack.

There's some tricky mid-air maneuvering where you have to quickly switch between characters. This is made more complicated by having four different action buttons (besides the arrow keys). Most Mario platformers stick with 2-3 buttons that you use regularly. It probably would've been possible to consolidate that down to three - one for jumping, one for hammers/charging, and one for switching characters. Of course, as you mentioned, you could manually configure that.

It's still a fun thing, though, and I'm glad you shared it!

various errors with the fighting system, when the characters finish attacking and it is the enemies' turn, the game shows this error https://media.discordapp.net/a...082/unknown.png]https://media.discordapp.net/a...082/unknown.png[/url]
and if I eliminate an enemy (the bom bom for example) the game sends other errors with other enemies

Try using this block of code in the Step event for obj_enemy:

if (attacking == 1)
{

// Which player should the enemy attack?

if (chosen == false)
{
chosen = true;
chooser = irandom(global.partysize-1);
scr_PlayerChooser();
}
//image_single = 4;
image_speed = 0.1;
scr_MoveChooser(name);
obj_battlecontroller.attack = attack;
move_towards_point(target.x-31,target.y,4);
}
