Vg Lizards To say the least this game convinced me that the Hello engine have to potential to do amazing things but the uninteresting levels keeps this entry from being anything better than mediocre at best.

Don't give up Hello
4 / 10
chadio As a "Greatest Hits" style game from multiple games, the quality of the levels range from boring or annoying to very fun. If you are a fan of the SMB3 art style, you will love the look of this game. Most people won't be interested in reading all the commentary unlocked by the collectables. The lack of an objective hurts the push to keep playing. But the wide variety of levels, enemies, items, and themes makes this game a very easy recommendation for anyone into 2D Mario games at all. And you can't beat the price. :D 8 / 10
Sevrault You might as well say goodbye to Hello ever listening to others that want to improve his games. 2 / 10
Mariofan1122 It's time for someone to teach hello how to make original stuff, and Mario how to speak proper English. 1 / 10
DustinVG While somewhat solid, Hello Fangaming Collection doesn't really leave a lasting impression on the player. 5 / 10
Ryan Silberman It's time for something to change. 1 / 10
Dollarluigi This wonderful collection by Hello is under-rated. It may not be perfect, but it's definitely worth your time. 8 / 10
Q-Nova You would probably rather say goodbye to the collection, rather than hello. 3 / 10
RaymanFan1995 The few "good" things about this game (which aren't necessarily spectacular to begin with) do not make up for the many bad things. I expected yet another Hello Clone from the master of Hello Clones himself, but I never expected he'd stoop so low to the point where he'd literally copy and paste bad level designs from past games, AND make the visuals even worse while he was at it. Hello, if you ever wake up from your fantasy world and come back to reality by actually listening to peoples' advice and making an actually GOOD game, PLEASE have someone let me know. I highly doubt it'll ever happen, but if it does, I'll be impressed.

Oh, and to those reading this who think I'm being rude, you probably haven't read the entire review and therefore have no right to point fingers at me. And if you have read the entire review, you clearly haven't been around as long as I and other critics have.
1 / 10
Nite Shadow This game is about in lines with thinking that I might actually achieve something with this review.
Both of which, are a complete and total waste of time.
1 / 10
Cap'n Coconuts It is not only a tribute to ten years of doing the same thing over and over again, but it is more importantly a tribute to Hello himself. There is nothing new or noteworthy in this ego trip of a game, consisting of rehashed levels and mindless sycophants. Over ten years, nothing noteworthy has changed for the better. Don't bother with this game. 1 / 10
db Sorry Hello, but this has to be the lamest game you have ever made! 4 / 10
Ultramario It's a collection of Hello's games. Nothing more, nothing less. 6 / 10
Mors A very polished Hello Clone by Hello. 5 / 10
EvilYoshiToes A boring collection of levels from boring games, complete with cheesy self-advertisement. 2 / 10
Cruise Elroy Much like the worst games Hello has made, this "game" has the exact same flaws as its predecesors that refuse to grow, and somehow it's expected that you keep playing more of it. You'd get more fun out of the games themselves that inspired this. 2 / 10
Average Score 3.4 / 10

I don't know why I'm downloading this, I don't know why I'm going to review it, I don't know why I expect anything from Hello that I haven't already seen a dozen times over, but I'm gonna do it anyway.

It's Wednesday; f*** it.

I'm not even going to say anything about this game because I've already said enough about Hello and his games in the past. Hello, your engine is decent (not great, but decent), but if you want to make games that people can enjoy and grow as a game developer, you really need to learn to listen to criticism, and you especially need to learn why your games just don't work and how you can make them better.

lol it's really funny to me that Hello has been making clones of his games like this for almost 10 years now. at least they're not ultramario engine games i guess......

Speaking as someone who hasn't played one of Hello's games in nearly 5 or 6 years, just looking from an outsider standpoint, I have to disagree with everyone.

Hello has definitely evolved. His engine used to be a lot more generic and sloppy. It's a much more polished engine now, and just judging from the first level, these new games of his are nowhere near as dull as the old stuff he started with. Plus, he now uses a bigger variety of unique sprites, aside from just... the same SMB3 stuff over and over again.

I mean yeah, I should probably play the whole thing before talking. Or I should go see all his fangames and decide how repetitive they are. But hell guys. Calling this a bad fangame is ridiculous. Hello may be redundant, and yes, I remember how much he used to clone his games time and time again, but... just judging this as a fangame, it's impressively smooth, beautiful, and pretty damn functional. I like it so far.

Are smooth, functional fangames a common thing nowadays? They didn't used to be. But I guess that would explain the criticism. Haha.

I agree, this game is definitely not too bad. I honestly think some people just prejudge this game because "it's made by Hello". But it has some problems, mainly being too generic.

Yeah, while most of the new fangames are still 2D, they are usually polished, unique and good looking.

Okay, I get the game is extremely redundant with no changes in style over the last 10 years and such, but are some of these overly harsh comments and reviews necessary? I agree Hello needs to really change up, but one star reviews and calling him names or accusing him of doing things is not going to change the way he does things.

He's not going to change the way he does things no matter what we say about him. It's not just that he continues to be stale and repetitive; it's also the fact that he deliberately chooses to ignore criticism and help when it's offered. He will never learn anything or grow as a game developer because of this, and it's his own fault for choosing not to listen.

Also, a lot of people have brought up that many of the game's NPCs say things that are best summed up as "XYZ was one of Hello's greatest games, even though nobody agrees with that, but who cares about them, Hello was the one who made it, only his opinion matters" as a big "%@#$ you" to the players. Because of this ego of his and his constant refusal to learn from his mistakes and to acknowledge criticism, we've grown rather tired of him and we've grown rather tired of being polite to him.

When i first Got into Game Maker, i didn't like him much, now i don't like him at all, This game is really an ego adventure of Ego Game maker who has never listened to anyone for 10 years, he has always kept repeating the SAME Generic SMb3/SMA4 Style over and over, which gave a false inspirations to others, thinking that SMb3/SMA4 style is the best and recommended style to make a Mario Fan game, I bet he's ignoring these reviews right now.

No, it's not. It's the Goodbye page.

Dumb jokes aside, I wouldn't say that we're being rude and harsh, or at least completely. If this were Hello's first or second game, I may be a bit more forgiving, but since it's been ten years of Hello being stuck in mediocrity, and since he stepped on critics trying to help him with Super Mario Dynamo, I'm not holding any punches back.

To be honest, this is the best Hello game I've ever played. While it has flaws, and has WAAAAAAAAAAY too many lighting effects, the level selection actually creates a sort of difficulty curve. Though, some of the Toad dialogue assumes the possibility that a player has never played a Mario platformer before, yet most of the levels have enemy placement that can kill you where you spawn if you don't move out of the way.

All-in-all, though, I have actually enjoyed playing this game, even though I fully expected not to, given my past experience with Hello, and Hello Engine, games.

If you truly feel that we are too harsh and rude, maybe you should take it up with site staff. After all, they chose to accept the reviews, and to my knowledge they see nothing wrong enough with the comments to remove them.

You're talking about the same people who complain about Hello clones, yet choose to accept them anyway just because they're interactive. Trust me, that's literally the only reason they accept these; remember that short-lived "Spoopy Mario"? All you did in that game was rapidly press one key and in 10 seconds, the game was over. And they accepted it anyway.

I remember Spoopy Mayro. However, Spoopy Mayro was accepted because the staff assumed a game made by a forum moderator was good enough. The game was removed when it was pointed out that it was not very good at all.

Engine clones are accepted because they abide by the relevant submission rules, not "just because they're interactive." But, rather than just assume things about the staff, let's see how those clones, and HFC in particular, compare to the submission rules:
* The game is playable
* All necessary external files are included
* There IS actual gameplay, even if it isn't amazing
* The game is (in theory) possible to complete
* The game is not an engine test
* The game IS a rushed edit of levels from Hello's previous games, but it is his own engine
* The game does not (to my knowledge) end with an error message
* The game does not abuse submission file size limits

As for why they continue to accept clones, I do not know. That is something best discussed with the staff themselves.

It does, but it tends to glitch out and a lot of the sprites and tiles aren't visible, I tested wine with smbmaster's Super Mario Odyssey and that's what happened.

Oh boy, looks like MFGG is itching to rid me of my “Worst Collection of Ported Levels” award. [/sarcasm]

Okay, so it’s a compilation of levels from Hello’s past games, revamped with new graphics and music into the most recent iteration of his engine. Dare I ask, what exactly is the problem in that? Give the guy some credit, he’s been doing this for ten years and has improved by leaps and bounds over that time, why does he deserve so much flack for it?

Quote (Rage_quitter_98 on Sep 14 2015, 5:44 AM)
…Yet they all expect a chance when some don't even say what is wrong.

That’s a good point. What’s everyone expecting, for Hello to completely re-gut his engine, hire a professional sprite team, plea to Nintendo for an official license, and design the epitomic 2D Mario game to smash all others? Because as incredible as that would be, IT. DOES. NOT. NEED. TO. HAPPEN. More likely than not, Hello is doing this as a hobby, and most of you are treating it like he’s a professional indie developer charging $14.99 a game! UGH.

My final point: The engine is not flawless—for some people more than others—but it could still be stuck in the comparatively atrocious form it had way back in the day if Hello truly didn’t care. And if you want the Mario Bros. to have a new (read: Super Mario World) coat of paint, just get over it. Those who have hate hearing you complain about it.

That's the problem. To do this for 10 years with improvements being fancy graphics that could potentially hurt one's eyes pretty much implies Hello's in a Mario fangame limbo whose ego cannot get out of.

Is that really the only “improvement” you can find up from, say, SMB Kingdom Troubles to this game? I agree, the lighting gimmick has become overused, but that is far from the only thing to have changed. Is it too much to ask that you play the game you’re ragging on so much, if only to notice the subtle tweaks along with the major improvements?

About the ego issue… I’m not really seeing it. Sure, the towns are named after him, but the NPCs within them don’t boast about him at all. They instead talk about his games/engine and how they were built, only occasionally naming a favorite or something like that. It’s practically no different than discussing on a forum. Also, keep in mind that this is EXPLICITLY a ten-year anniversary game, and that he ought to have some leeway for that.
