Super Mario Bros: Times Recollection (Scrapped)
preview

NOTE: Thanks to your overwhelming feedback, I have realized my mistake, and this project has been cancelled. You’re welcome.

This is a re-creation of several games done by a good friend of mine. Each game has been made into a world, and I have fixed many glitches from the original games. (Namely the infamous jumping glitch, remember that?)

The version on this site will probably become outdated very quickly, so if you want to keep up with the most recent version, you can go here:

I played it before. It was good but level designs are bad. Also Hello Engine 3 is outdated and overused. I think you should use your own levels and different engine on your next game.

1) Times engine? I used Hello Engine 3 to make this…
2) In the full version, there will be original levels. You’ll just need to unlock them first.
3) I’m already working on a new project using a moderately-modified version of Hello Engine 5.1.

Please, just write your own engine. That'll keep some variety in fangaming.

I’m not trying to make up excuses or anything, but advanced platforming physics are not easy for me to work with. If I did try I’d end up copying a ton of stuff from Hello Engine anyways.

Then again, you can’t know unless you actually do try. I had an idea for a platformer where Hello Engine wouldn’t fit at all, so there’s my opportunity.

Yes, I have seen the harsh criticism put forth by many members. I know that everybody uses it, but I feel very angry that people can’t seem to get past that. Sure, there’s the huge amount of Hello clones, but when there’s obvious effort put into a project using it, it receives the same common complaints. I guess I’m just a softie, but at least I don’t go around criticizing games over something I feel is stupid like that.

Anyway, how would a side-scrolling, 8-bit shooter sound? That’s the next project I plan on uploading here, and the physics are ready to be programmed.

Expect a review from me sometime later.

EDIT: It is my biggest review ever, because I had to go in-depth with every one of these 4 clones in this collection.

Hopefully, it wouldn't be difficult for you to see how much you dropped the ball.

Okay, I can clearly see this game is not going to be updated here anymore. I feel stupid now for even trying to defend the engine, because it’s obviously quite hated by many users here. Alright, lesson learned, next time and every time forth I’ll be sure to make my own engine from scratch.

I wouldn't say Hello engine is so bad no games that are good can be made with it, but when it is used with no graphical changes and pretty much the same glitch gameplay that the engine has it just makes the game look and play horribly. So unless it is EXTREMELY edited, it tends to look like an overused, poor quality clone. That's why people hate it.
