General Commentary and Game Overview
Well, I was waiting for new fangames for long enough now! After 2 updates (aka A whole month) without any new games, MFGG's main course, MFGG felt like a ghost town. But finally.....FINALLY, there are 3 new games available to the public! Although my Kart Wars game hasn't passed the Queue just yet, there's this game, Red Scare (Which looks super epic, judging from its thumbnail), Kamek's Halloween (I'll look at that next), and this game, Bowser's Last Stand. For some reason, I ended up playing this first. When I saw the thumbnail, though, I came close to thinking this was yet another no-frills Hello edit (Overlooking the blue bar). Yet I still downloaded it. I'm so glad I was wrong about the game.

Pros -Original gameplay elements
-Role reversal
-Charming look
-Neat story -- Had me hooked

Cons -I think it would be better if I can continue from the level I'm on, rather than from the start of the world (I understand this was in the original SMB, but still).

Impressions
Gameplay
9 / 10
Basically, it's the average Super Mario Bros gameplay. That is, if the role reversal for Bowser hadn't been present. Now you can breathe fire (With the blue bar being Bowser's stamina) and use your shell to smash enemies!

Graphics
9 / 10
The graphics are full of 16-Bit-style awesomism. Fittingly taken from various 2D Mario games, I think it's best if the game were to stay looking like that.

Sound
8 / 10
There are so many MIDI versions of Super Mario Bros's music, yet only few are chosen so often. Bowser's Last Stand still uses the same MIDIs others have used already, but here, since the game looks and plays like 16-Bit SMB anyway, I don't think it even matters.

Replay
9 / 10
Oh, yeah! I'm definitely going back to playing this again. You just gotta wonder what would be next for Bowser to tackle up, or what kinds of dialogue would you be able to see after progressing world to world. The game is just plain awesome, so either way, Mario fans are sure to keep at it in this game.

Final Words
9 / 10
Wow! A SMB-styled game that (1) Doesn't end up being sadistic with a use of a Hello engine and (2) Not even use a Hello engine! The gmk is a nice addition, but chances are it would be as overused as Hello's engine is.

Version 0.4.0 was released today! :) It isn't up on MFGG yet (waiting for moderation), but you can download it at http://onpon.co.nr/bowsers-last-stand.html.

One of the major changes is actually the con you listed; when you get a game over, you stay in the same level you were on. Game overs now simply force you to choose between ending the game (saving your high score) or continuing the game (causing your score to be reset to 0).

Hello,

Version 0.7.0 was just now released. The game has come a long way since you reviewed version 0.3.0. :) Anyway, the final release is planned to be released in 2 weeks, on Friday December 2, 2011. Between now and then, I would very much like to hear any remaining faults you can find with the game. I want to make it as great as it can possibly be. :) So if you have any remaining complaints about version 0.7.0 of Bowser's Last Stand, do please let me know so I can address them!
