What is the music that plays during the Pinkie Pie minigame? I must have that track. In general, the choice of music is awesome and so is the game.

You may be able to convert the OGG file to an MP3 file somehow.

Seems pretty interesting. Since this is a demo, I'd like to make a few suggestions:

1. The graphics tend to clash horribly; try to find a single art style to stick with. Especially Mario's sprites; I have a feeling they'll be fixed (to not keep changing between N-Mario's MUGEN character sprites with what I'm assuming are your edits of said sprites) in the final version, and if that's the case, I won't complain too much.

2. The music drowns out all other sounds; be sure to lower the volume. It's also just pretty loud in general.

3. It feels a bit awkward having the fireball button above the jump button; perhaps you could either have customizable controls or maybe have C jump, X shoot, and Z for the hyper attack? Or something like that.

4. The level design got pretty confusing; unfortunately, I didn't play past the first level, but the reason is the level design. When I was climbing the tower made of blocks, I thought I was supposed to go left, but there was just a bonus area. It wasn't until I fell along the right side of the tower that I found out there was actually a ground below the tower; I thought it was a bottomless pit.

All in all, this is a neat concept. I hope you'll take my suggestions into consideration. Thank you.

This is pretty dang sweet, though it's a shame my computer isn't fast enough to run it properly.

Yes, I don't know why they're raging. Anyway, nice review, I enjoyed reading it.

Thank you!

It's just... Ugh. You start out in a lava land with fireballs spewing out of lava, which would normally be in the last-but-non special world of an official Mario game. I'll have to agree with Jack-of-All Game's statements about it being drenched in weak scenery, the level design, just, the lava background, for example.

^^This.

The background, which I believe I mentioned in my review (I say that because it's been a while since I wrote it), is the laziest background I have ever seen. The graphics are an eyesore to look at, especially due to the fact that none of them blend well, and the controls are just....ugh.

The reason why I gave this game such a low score, as I tried to explain in the comments section of my review, is because this game, while playable to SOME extent, is not enough to keep me hooked on it for very long, which is also why I didn't play much more than the first stage. If this game were made in, say, 2001, then I guess I wouldn't be so harsh, but fangame developers have learned how to make better games, and websites like these have all the sources (and experienced people that can provide help and insight) a developer could ask for. And games like these, for me at least, just don't cut it anymore.

@Cap'n Coconuts:

1) My point is, you could've written your comment with a more friendly tone; "assumptions just make an ass out of you and me", as the old saying goes*. How is someone putting blame on you if all they say is that it's "f***ing hard"? That's just a simple statement and opinion; there is no need to get defensive over it.

1.5) His original review is irrelevant; the reply of yours that I'm referring to was based on a simple comment alone. Had you written that comment on his original review, I would've been more accepting with your choice of words.

2) The reason I "White Knighted" (as you put it) is because I was hoping I could get you to see the words you used the way I see them. Reporting it, at the time, seemed counter-productive, but if that's what you want me to do, then from now on, I will.

*("You" and "me", in this case, being Syr and yourself, respectively.)

I think the problem here is that you haven't played a shoot-em-up before and your natural instinct is to panic when a Gao fires a 3-way shot at you.

No, the problem here is that not everyone is good at shooting games, and you act as though those who are not are completely inferior to you. Just because he/she finds your game challenging does not give you the right to be an ***hole.

Why? You didn't even make this game. And he's just telling his opinions. Should I rate a game 1/10 and act like I rated it a 7/10? No. There's no reason to act like he did something wrong.

Thank you. At least SOMEONE on this website is mature enough to understand the concept of EXPRESSING OPINIONS.

As for the Starman theme, I was explicitly requested to make an arrangement of said theme.

Composing an original soundtrack takes a lot of time and effort - it's the reason Sonic After the Sequel took so long to make, as well as why a lot of fangames and hacks don't have original music.

As far as I know, this game was a bit of a backburner project of sorts - an original soundtrack wasn't a big priority for either of us. While a future fangame of DJ Coco's will certainly have an original soundtrack, the only thing I think would have been necessary was proper looping of the other oggs.

Yeah, that's true. Like I said, it's not critical, but it does add charm to a fan game. Either way, this game is fun to play.

These are actually not that bad. I think they'd look a lot better with shading, though, like in the "Coming Soon" sprite.

I think your description needs some fixing. Here's what it SHOULD say:

"Mario is having a normal, peaceful day, but then he gets a terrible idea!

This game includes:
-Terrible, preschool-level doodles
-No interesting storyline whatsoever
-The worst-quality "cutscenes" imaginable
-Boring, barely-animated repetitive gameplay
-Horrible MIDI music that makes your ears bleed

"Controls are in the game, but why bother learning the controls when watching the game do nothing is even more entertaining than playing the game itself? SUFFER!"

P.S. If I come off as being a jerk, it's probably because there was absolutely no effort put into this game, nor is it very interesting to begin with. Just like Attack of the Fangamers.

You're welcome! :D

EDIT: I wouldn't necessarily say "important"; you can still have a great game with music from other sources. I just think original music makes a game stand out more.

Not bad, but there's certainly some potential for improvement. Expect a review soon.

Ah, much better! I still think you should try and add some original block and item concepts, though. You know, mix it up a bit.

The eyebrows were actually an attempt to make the fire flowers look more feminine (I was trying to make eyelashes).

I kinda had the feeling that might be what they were supposed to be; I did see you had written "she's a fiery personality", but I didn't think it had anything to do with the attempt at flaming female Fire Flowers (now there's an alliteration for ya!).

Like I said, most of the sprites here look like simple edits from SMB3 and SMW. Simple, but useful; I can't really think of much that would make them look better. Maybe give the yellow "!" Blocks an actual yellow color rather than the brownish-gold color (maybe use the same palette as the yellow switches). As for the Fire Flowers, the only thing that could use fixing in my eyes is that they seem to have eyebrows that make them look worried.

Many years ago, MajinPiccolo created two sheets of custom block concepts which are on TSR (you may have seen them before). You might be able to expand this sheet by trying something like that.

This seems somewhat lazy to me; most of the sprites here look like just simple edits from the original SMB3 and SMW graphics. The mushrooms also look like they could use some better shading at the top. It's not bad, but it could use some improvement.

Sometimes "remix" is another way of saying "2."
Notice he said, "my second game about Mario's struggle with the koopas" in the description.

Oh, that's true. Either way, I'm not a huge fan of it myself, and I'm sure that since it's his second go, it's somehow better than the original, which I most likely ALSO wouldn't be a huge fan of.
