Gameplay 2 / 10 |
What makes Paper Mario World so damn interesting is that it contains so many elements of a good game. Adam implements elements of a partner system, but all it ever amounts to is having your partner flip a switch for you. The entirety of PMW feels like an adventure. Wether it's an adventure that actually means something, or an adventure of how one kid decided to use Game Maker is up to you, but it still remains so interesting to play through. I was generally interested in what could possibly come next. And what could make this even more interesting would be if Adam had gone on to make something actually good. Like how the creators of Bubsy 3D went on to work on the Uncharted series. If I were to say any particular issue, it would be how strangely forced in Kirby is. While his level is one of the more "authentic" one's in the game. It actually kind of looks like a Kirby game, and the inclusion of the classic "Green Greens" tune in the background does a wonder to make it fairly authentic. But the point still stands, why is he here? Am I to believe this is in the same universe as the Smash Bros games? His inclusion in the story is so strange, Adam making a point to mention that he can return home, but chooses not to. PMW's level design is mindless. Gameplay mechanics don't play out, concepts are introduced and forgotten about quickly, and glitches are abundant. It simply can't be understated how broken this game is. |
Graphics 3 / 10 |
The graphics aren't his, but Adam does show a good quality because of this. He actually cites his sources at the end of the game. This does have value, and is actually a good trait in a game designer. It's still not his though. |
Sound 1 / 10 |
None of it is his. Same as graphics, I suppose. |
Replay 10 / 10 |
Paper Mario World is infinitely replayable. It's an adventure I'm glad I went on, and I don't think I'll ever be the same after it. |

Paper Mario World is art. It is a fascinating game that has artistic value and quite a bit of replayability. It's also one of the strangest, most inconsistent games I've ever played. |
