General Commentary and Game Overview
So this is the game that started it all. Or so the creator says. Nevertheless, this is pretty good (not to mention addicting) for an early fangame, especially being made in 1999.

Pros True-to-original Mario engine, paralax, and alternate endings.

Cons Uses sprites that were commonly used in MFGG's earlier fangames. And you have to restart from the beginning if you die.

Impressions
Gameplay
8 / 10
This is your average Mario platformer...with a twist. Instead of scrolling to the end of the level, you have to collect as many stars and coins in each level. You get into this game pretty easily, and you'll definately want to try to collect everything in the screen. It's pretty frustrating how you have to restart from the beginning if you die.

Graphics
5 / 10
The sprites used in this game are stuff I've seen over and over in early MFGG games. So nothing great here.

Sound
7 / 10
It's stuff I've heard before, but each music selection matches well with its corresponding level.

Replay
7 / 10
Since there's alternate endings, you'll definately want to try to watch them all. So great replay value here.

Final Words
7 / 10
Overall, this is actually VERY good for an early fangame. The creator polished the engine, so that makes it even better. This is very good for time-killing.

This wasn't the first Mario fangame "that started it all," I just think it is what helped popularize Mario fangaming, or something. :o

Avi's right, this wasn't the first ever game, but it was the game which kickstarted fan gaming as a craze.
