General Commentary and Game Overview
Paper Mario World... a game made by the same creative genius behind Mario's Mini-game Madness, an equally painful slap to the face of good taste. In fact, if you want a good idea of the design that went into making Paper Mario World, just imagine MMGM with a storyline mode. Not very pretty, is it? Anyway, this is appearently the "Gold" version of the game. I'm assuming that the "Gold" portion comes from Yoshiman's contributions to the game. I don't believe his actual work is ever specified, but I'm pretty sure it's all the small little special effects you'll find here and there. But all the special effects in the world couldn't save this disaster...

Pros Umm... uhhh...

Cons Horribly mismatched graphics. Poor attempt at a storyline. Creepy Yoshi narration. Mediocre programming. Unskippable cinema scenes. Occasional lack of a backdrop. Can't stomp enemies. Constant use of bouncing ball or path movement bosses. Pathetic dialogue.

Impressions
Gameplay
1 / 10
...Bad. Very bad. First of all, Mario shoots fireballs from his hat. FROM HIS HAT. You know you're in for a real treat when you press Fire 2 and a fireball emits from Mario's hat. The game uses built-in platform movement, but I'm not so against that. You can't stomp enemies, which annoys me (yeah, I know I committed the same crime in Super Mario Epic, back off). There is an abundance of bouncing ball and path movement bosses. You can tell Supermarioadam's level design skills haven't improved much since Mario's Mini-game Madness. In fact, some of the earlier levels almost appear to be ripped straight from MMGM. At some point in your journey, you'll be joined by Kooper and Bombette. You only get to use them on one level, and it's a one screen stage with no enemies (only a pit of lava). You'll also control Kirby for a while, which isn't anymore fun than controlling Mario. In fact, it's less fun -- pressing Fire 2 results in him shooting a really glitchy cluster of stars. Sometimes it'll shoot from his mouth, sometimes it'll shoot from offscreen... Unpredictability is usually not a desirable factor in gameplay. There are a few levels (and one in particular, a forest-style level towards the end) that just drag on FOREVER without an enemy in sight. There are ? blocks in some places throughout the game, which dissapear upon being hit (from any angle). Some of them - SOME OF THEM - dispense Mushrooms. So what do they others give out, you ask? Fire flowers? Maybe coins? NO. They give out nothing. NOTHING. You hit them, they dissapear, the end. I'm not even sure why he would bother to include something like that, but nonetheless he did.

Graphics
2 / 10
Imagine this: A mix between Paper Mario, Super Mario World, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario RPG. Head hurt yet? Then consider this: he also uses SMB graphics. 8-BIT SMB GRAPHICS, used in the same level as the 16-bit and 3Dish SMRPG stuff. Tacky, tacky, tacky. A lot of levels don't even have backdrops. If they do, the backdrops are typically arranged sloppily. Some of the enemies (namely Koopa Troopa and Dry Bones) are enlarged, resulting in pixelation. The PM Mario sprite used is in direct contrast to everything else, as its mostly the only PM sprite you'll see in this game (other than on the title screen and Bowser). The only thing that saves this section even the slightest bit is what I'm assuming is Yoshiman's contribution to the game: shiny special effects. It never specifies what exactly Yoshiman added to the game, but if you play it you'll be able to tell.

Sound
2 / 10
The music almost never fits the level. You'd almost have to be sucking on purpose to get it wrong that many times. There aren't many sound effects either, which doesn't help matters any. To top it all off, each level is proceeded by the creepiest Yoshi impersonation ever. It sounds more like Meatwad from Aqua Teen Hunger Force than it does Yoshi.

Replay
2 / 10
Let's pretend for a second that it's actually possible to like PMW. If you DID want to replay the levels, he does give you passwords, so that at least helps his score here. It's still only a two, though, because I'm not sure who would really want to play this game again (other than for irony or tips on how to not make a fangame, which I don't think counts).

Final Words
1 / 10
It's almost become a trend now to give Paper Mario World a horrible review. Before I even played this game, I knew that it couldn't possibly be as bad as everybody made it sound. How wrong I was...
