General Commentary and Game Overview
Paper Mario World is a game featuring a paper Mario, as well as Kirby, in a storyline loosely based off of both Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario. While this may seem cool and fun, it ends up as a good idea with horrible, horrible execution. Why is this so? Read on!

Pros Based off of two great RPGs, has Mario and Kirby in it, and the great narration cutscenes... that's about it.

Cons Almost everything, from the "A MFGG Exclusive Fanmade Game!" screen at the beginning to the loss of narration cutscenes at chapter 3 to the fact that the Toads/Koopas in the villages are worthless. And the "ploik" fireball noise gets REALLY ANNOYING.

Impressions
Gameplay
3 / 10
After choosing "Begin a new Adventure" from the menu, you're thrown into 4 "training levels", sloppily thrown together; the last is the same as the first, except with enemies. After that, you're in Bowser's Castle, which is just as easy and thrown-together. After that, there's a cutscene featuring Bowser and Mario; then there's the first of the hilarious narration scenes, with Yoshiman's impression of... something. I think it's supposed to be a Yoshi, but I can't be sure because of how whiny it sounds.

Then there's a Goombario level, which is topdown (and it doesn't look like it, either), featuring bouncing-ball Goombas. After that, you go through some "woods" to get to Toad Town, go to Mario's house to get an "item to store your helpers in", then go through a level which has NO BACKGROUND and has lava on the ground. Then you go through a lake (that turns out to be very small), then you go to Koopa Village, get your partners, and... I'm getting tired of typing. All you need to know is that Kirby joins around the middle of Chapter 2, rather humorously named "Very Hot Desert", and that the gameplay doesn't get any better. Multiplayer is just as bad - Kirby and Mario fight in poorly-thought out topdown stages.

Graphics

Thrown-together. The Paper Mario sprite is great, though the only other paper things you'll see in the game are Bowser and Peach. Mario also appears in a go-kart and in a plane (the plane is just Sonic 2's Tornado with the "SONIC" crossed out and a "Mario" over it), but those Marios are from Super Mario Kart and Super Mario World, respectively. The partners are Yoshi's Island edits, and some of the enemies are from Super Mario RPG and walk in midair. Kirby is from Kirby Super Star, and suffers from palette reduction.

Sound
3 / 10
All MIDIs.. and if you look at my other reviws, you know I don't particuarly like MIDIs in fangames. They're poorly chosen; the menu screen has a remixed Starman music for some reason. That level I mentioned in Gameplay with the lava on the platform has no music. There's also Yoshiman's prepubescent Yoshi voice for the cutscenes, which is great, hilarious, and greatly hilarious. The Mario voices are somewhat overused; the Kirby voices are okay, though.

None.

Final Words
2 / 10
This game is one of the worst games I have ever played, right up there with Mario's Mini Game Madness. It's a real shame, too; the premise is great. Hopefully someone will make a Platinum version, which improves on this idea. Until then, we have our Super Mario Epic 2.

For the record, that was not Yoshimaster talking, that would have been my pre-pubescent voice.
