this game was pretty rushed (even the first level) for april fools, but hey its good to know that my level designing is getting better in each game (despite not making a new game in a few years). i will probably finish this game soon when I feel like it since it was suppose to be on itcho.io and not mfgg (I mentioned this on the forums), also I will not use the same waligie joke in a newer april fools game because I can see them getting annoying as bloody hell (ill probably make waluigie as a cameo in one game in a background I don't know yet).
Sweet! Thanks for the review! I got really excited when I saw this in the latest update!
Yeah, I think it could've been a lot better, while still having that classic fangame feel. At first it was only meant to be a simple experiment rather than a game; I was going to make something else for your game jam. However, it seemed like there was a possibility I may be unavailable for the next day or so, and with not much time left, I took my experiment and tried to turn it into a beatable game. Turns out that wasn't necessary, though, because I happened to still have Internet access those following days. Oh well.
I had a lot of fun making this game, though. I'm glad you hosted that old fangame-themed jam; that was so much fun! I'd love to make another game, a much better one, with TGF, whether for another jam or not!
And yes, I'd love a good new Commander Keen game! If only series creator Tom Hall could get the rights to make one... At least the Keen mods and fangames fill in that niche nicely for now.
I love the sound you hear when Yoshi hits the carrot! It's simply hysterical! It's too bad the actual game doesn't have much going for it; more details are in a review that I just submitted. (Now it needs to be accepted.)
I'd say that the colors are fine actually. It matches the SMW style very well. Pretty good use of hue shifting as well. With darker backgrounds, detail is less visible, so you won't see absolutely everything especially not at a distance. Maybe the green one has a bit too much contrast, but I'm sure there's another option in the SMW palette to choose from.
Gosh, you sure have a lot of SMAS SMB1 stuff here. (Not that I'm complaining of course, this is my favorite style!) But I do have to ask...are you planning on making something big with these? Like a fangame of some sort?
I thought about making fangames with them, but I don't have a lot of good ideas. But I hope people can use my sprites in their games!
