I don't think anyone who actually values reviews would mind reading a long review.

As long as they're not so long as to be preposterous, long reviews which are long because they go into detail (but stick to the points and don't excessively linger) tend to be better than really short ones.

"SMB3 having the best graphics, the fangame tileset being the latest one, there's not much else you could want, or expect from a Hello game."

How does the fact that a tileset is the "latest" make it be automatically the best choice for every game? What about older, also good tilesets?

Also, regardless of how good a game's graphics are (and SMB3's certainly are excellent), overusing them so that all of one's games look graphically the same, is not really a good plan. Overuse can indeed factor into the graphical equation. There are other good sets of sprites aside from SMB3 sprites, and if Hello used them once in a while, it would make for an interesting change-up that would likely attract more players, and therefore end up being a better choice in that case for graphics than the same ones as before.

dude your like black squirrel on how you only linger on only one or two details and give the game a bad score cuz of that.

BS's method (which you don't seem to be very accurately describing anyway) is way better than giving a brief generalized description of things, like I've seen in a lot of reviews lately.

Not to flatter, but I think Black Squirrel is easily one of the best reviewers on the site (I was just reading one of his reviews a short time ago), and consider his reviews to be models of how to write them.

Yet that doesn't make it okay. Not everyone has awesome computers.

Agreed. Games ought to work well for as many people as possible, and lag isn't generally something related to an anomalous computer-specific problem (a game can't fairly be blamed for something like that), but simply related to lower computer power, which is a common thing.

Eh, short review without too much detail.

I will grant that it does focus on a few specifics, however (although for some reason, as with some other reviews I've seen recently, these specifics tend to show up in Cons rather than in one of the sections that are supposed to be longer and more detailed).

The Gameplay section says that the game goes fine with "no troubles" and yet in Cons it says that the physics are annoying at times and that the game can be very difficult. Contradiction there.

Remarks about the music should not really be appearing in the Gameplay section, especially when the Gameplay section is so incredibly short (and therefore short on relevant content) already.

I also find it quite odd that the Final Words section is actually longer than any of the Impressions sections. I'd recommend making that the other way round in future.

I must say, people should seriously look to your reviews for an example of how to do it right. This review is of a very high caliber.

You inspire me to start reviewing again, so that I too can show people how I think it should be done.

No offense, but this review honestly wasn't very informative.

It would have been nice if you had gotten into more detail, such as:

*Described some of the more notable glitches.

*Said something more than simply "one enemy" (the meaning of which is ambiguous, as it could also be interpreted as meaning that there is only one enemy character in the entire demo).

*Actually offered suggestions as to how the game could be improved and tweaked, or indicated what areas of it need improvement (other than glitched features), since you mentioned more than once that it needed improvement/tweaking to make it more fun; all I really see is generic statements in these areas. Why is it, for example, that you wouldn't feel like playing this for hours? What specifically is it about the game that makes you feel that way?

(Note: An exception to the above is the Graphics section, where you actually did detail problems with Mario's walking; but there are other parts of the review that are still very generic.)

I keep hearing about this game allowing players to create their own levels. But I played the game thoroughly and found no way to do this whatsoever (though I did find a button which didn't seem to do anything in the unlockable Editor).

Do you need to have a Clickteam product to be able to open the level editor?

If so, I'm not technically sure I can review it, because I have no Clickteam products.

Hmm, the review isn't showing up on the game's page currently. Does it have to do with the aforementioned changing of the score, and is this normal for that?

I still don't get why you gave the graphics a 10 if you yourself say the animations are flawed.

10 is for something you consider perfect, or as close to perfect as one can possibly get.

Where is sindii's 3D mario demo?

Can this game here ever be discussed without that guy's game being brought up too? Geez.

How the ---- can you give the graphics a five? It's ----ing 3D! Although I agree more or less with the rest of your scores, how do you give ----ing polygons a five?

What the hell are you talking about.

Just because a game uses 3D graphics with polygons does NOT automatically mean it has good graphics.

For example, a 3D game can use textures and colors on its models that look crappy as all hell, but still have a high polygon count. The general type of graphics or graphics rendering a game uses, cannot by itself determine the graphics' overall quality.

(Not that I'm implying for a moment that there's something crappy about the textures and stuff in this game; I'm just giving an example and speaking generally about 3D games.)

This looks quite simalar to my game =/

Just because it uses M&L graphics in 2D? Hardly an idea that just one fangamer would come up with independently.

This isn't a ripoff of your game.

Sorry for the late comment, but...

I have much liking for this sheet.

But it'd be even cooler if he had poses for being inside his shell and spinning, IMO. I understand if you consider this unnecessary, though, since Project Everything is mainly based on SMB1, and Spinies only go into their shells in SMB3.

I hope this isn't a rejection of all criticism, even constructive criticism.

I'm sorry to say this about a review written by a friend, but this review in my opinion is so low-quality that I'm amazed it got accepted.

Reviews, I believe, should:

* Have more than one or two sentences per section (generally speaking at least)
* Actually describe the good and bad points of each aspect so as to make it clear why they got the scores they got, rather than just saying "I loved the graphics/gameplay" or "the graphics/gameplay is good/great"
* Have something in the Replay section that actually has to do with replay value (i.e., how much a player will likely want to come back to play the game again)
* In general not appear like they were written in just 10-15 minutes - like all submissions, reviews should show some effort

All in all, if I had not played this game already, I would have come out of reading this review knowing not very much at all of importance about the game. I don't like to sound harsh, but think of this as advice for future reviews.

I played this game very long ago (and liked it).

If it was just accepted now, I'm wondering how I played it the first time. I guess it was probably a link posted on the forums by you yourself, UM. (I'm pretty sure I downloaded it from a main site page.)

EDIT: Also, this game reminds me a lot of "Mario World", which makes sense because I believe you said that was your first game.

Really nice sheet. Awesome job.

Incidentally, Luigi will almost certainly be in Brawl, given what was said about the original SSB cast being carried over to Brawl. But I guess a lot of you figured that already. [/offtopic]
