I love this hack for the improvements, and it does make a definitive way to play SM64 in general. However, there's some things that are bothersome. First, the title screen modification. I don't need a reminder letting me know that I applied the patch successfully and that I'm running the patched rom. If this is an improvement hack, this is one let down that doesn't make the game feel official anymore. The game should look the same as it did, and let the gameplay improvements shine on their own.

The second issue I have with the hack is the bone Mario lives icon. A friend of mine told me that I can press B on the file selection to bypass this, but it should've been the other way around. Where it's press B to get the bone Mario icon as sort of an easter egg kind of thing. I have no idea why the bone Mario icon is relevant, it looks out of place.

But other than those two issues, the hack is amazing and makes the game much better to play. I hope you'll take these into consideration on the next update. I'll definitely recommend this hack to others once it's refined.

You can disable the whole bone Mario thing from the options, it's a death counter as opposed to the default lives system of the original game.

As for the title screen, I guess I can add an option for that too, I see your point.

I really enjoy these, though to have some decorations to go with them would be nice.

Holy hell, the Hard Mode version of Rematch with Koopa the Quick needs to be nerfed.
After trying multiple time legitimately I settled on abusing the delay of bringing up his text box by doing a frame perfect jump and going down to the beach to start the race, using the shell to ride up the mountain and getting there with half a second to spare.
Unless you've added something or there's a warp I'm missing I honestly can't see how it can be done legitimately.

OOPS that seems to be a mistake, I'm stupid.
I'll fix it with the next update, thanks for reporting.

Looks like a bug has struck this site again, and it's one that's occurred many times, which is the one where some of the submissions uploaded since the last update aren't present in the list within this update. Like, there are much more reviews submitted, and there's also quite a couple games. Have you staff detectives done any sleuthing on that problem?

I'll look into it

For some reason I cannot get this to run on console, is it compatible with console?
Works fine on Mupen64 through libretro.

Yea, it was tested on console.

Lol I downloading this hoping for a bunch of weird, crazy stuff like the Minecraft level in the thumbnail, then got basically another Hello engine.

Except this doesn't even use Hello Engine? And there are more levels like the one in the thumbnail?

I was playing again, and I just found a major bug in Flaming Forest Frenzy -- whenever you get hit in the first section, the screen goes black for a bit. I fell into a pit in that same part, and the game froze with everything black except for the HUD and wouldn't respond, so I had to use the Task Manager (and boy, it sure took a while for the game to close). I'm using Windows 7, by the way.

I'll take a look at it

I've actually been thinking of making something different recently, as I've begun to get tired of making platforming games. The problem is that I simply have no ideas.
Also, how long have you played this game for? It sounds like you've only played the first two levels, I recall putting a bit more effort into the third level (or at least spending a lot more time on it).

I found it odd you how mentioned Mr. Pence along with the other joke games, that series eventually got so serious that I couldn't even call it a joke anymore (though a lot of the more serious games would end up being scrapped).

I think I quit at the 3rd level actually? Not sure.

And I did play a little bit of "Mr. Pence's Last Penny" and uhhh, if that's a serious game for you then maybe you're underestimating the quality standards for fangames these days lol. It felt like another joke game to me.

By the way, did you forget about Syaxamaphone's level? I noticed that there's no level marked 9th in the whole game -- I even looked carefully through all map screens!

Of course you're the first one to notice.

He didn't want his level to be included, normally we wouldn't be ok with this but his case was a bit unusual.

As for the wine thing, I fixed that actually but never announced it here, whoops!

I recently updated the game to fix the memory leak issues (hopefully), but as for the other crash, I've tried to replicate a similar one earlier but I wasn't successful. I will take a look at it again later, same for the slowdown issues.

It's not a bad game. I do agree with some of the people here, though. The physics are really slippery causing unneeded difficulty. If the physics were more precise, this would be better. As I said, not a bad game.

Also, aren't engine tests not allowed to submit as games on MFGG?

Kinda, only the ones that don't have a full level are not allowed. This one at least has a full level you can finish.
Quote (Submission Rules)
We will not accept "engine tests", in which all you can do is walk around and test out basic elements. Demos, or yet to be completed games, must contain at least one full-length level for a developed engine and at least two for a more basic one.

It seems like no one really cares about submission rules anymore anyways, including the staff. I mean, I remember a few other engine tests being posted before, and even though I reported one of them, nothing was really being done about it. I've been also called out for pointing out a rule-breaking submission of a staff member so I guess that's another proof of that lol

Also, the physics are as slippery as most of the original games and I don't see a problem at that. Having extremely tight controls in a Mario game isn't exactly a good thing.

The galoomba looks a little weird, and I think it should have the SMM swimming sprites too. Otherwise, this is a pretty good sheet, alberit a little small. I would like for this to get extended with other goomba types (And possibly a SMB1 Variant?)
Yeah, SMW Goomba sprite doesn't work well with SMB3 Goomba's face, I should've just redrawn it completely lol

Why was spoopy maryo accepted? It's not even a game. Engine tests are more of a game than it, and those are clearly forbidden in the submission guidelines. I know we're dealing with fangames here, but you could at least pretend to have some standards.
