General Commentary and Game Overview
Super Mario: Hard Game...Another "hard" Mario game? This should be interesting T_T

Once when I was younger, I never understood why people got tired of "hard" Mario games, but as I have aged over the last 3 years, I have come to understand what it is about "hard" Mario games that drive people crazy, and why. The majority of "hard" Mario games are made by people who find engines and add nothing worthwhile to them. This game demonstrates that perfectly. Amazing amounts of enemy spam, unoriginal level design, one level, no plot, no challenge at all, and nothing else.

Pros +I know some people are sick of the SMB3 Mario sprites, but I like them all right
+Can you believe it? A "hard" game that has a file size below 5 megabytes
+I like the SMB1 main theme

Cons -There's no more than the SMB1 main theme
-The parallax that the single background layer in the engine had has been disabled for whatever reason
-enemy spam, and TONS of it
-the game's title lies. I personally see no challenge in this game
-physics left unaltered from the engine
-I took damage from jumping on top of a spazzing enemy that was stuck inside another enemy

Gameplay
2 / 10
You play as Mario who, for whatever reason, is being spammed by trillions of enemies, all of which produce no challenge in any way whatsoever. It's the basic Mario platformer concept though, you get through the level and slide down the flag pole at the end.

Yay the end. Now do it again.

Graphics
5 / 10
At least mariofangames changed the sprites used in the engine, or at least some of them.

I like the graphics. I've always been a fan of the style that was used in the Super Mario All-Stars game on the SNES.

I'm also a big fan of the Black Squirrel Tileset, even though they are a tad overused.

Sound
3 / 10
same old sounds from the engine, nothing changed. Although I love the SMAS Mario theme, there is something that downgrades the sound score: the music's the same from the engine, as are the sounds, and this I know.

Although the original Hello Engine had the 8-bit sounds and 8-bit Mario theme, Hello also remade the engine. There was a topic about it on one of the old MFGG forums. The revised engine had: SMAS music and sounds, and the sliding down the flag-pole was also added. This engine was not changed in the area of sound.

Replay
1 / 10
Absolutely not. Unless novice game designers want to see how NOT to use an engine and how NOT to make a game.

Final Words
1 / 10
Another "hard" Mario game abusing the HE1 engine, which should be used for learning how to program and design, rather than spamming the player with a ludicrous amount of enemies and unoriginal content.
