Pros | + Innovative mechanics + Great musical score + Good length + to be spoiler free, I'll just say: the story |
Cons | - Psycho Iris can take some time to get used to - Timeout = instant death |
Gameplay 10 / 10 |
So you have your standard Mario platforming mechanics and those are executed well. 'Nuff said. Now for the interesting part: Psycho Iris. You control Psycho Iris with the up and down keys to control the angle, can pick up pretty much all enemies in the game and some even let you use their powers for a limited time. I have to say, this works incredibly well once you got used to it, although the learning curve might be a bit steep. Especially in one of the later levels when you are stripped of the psychic powers for a moment, you will realize how important Psycho Iris grew to you while playing the game. Also I think most people will agree with me when I say: this game features one of the most original and interesting level goal concepts I have ever seen, not only in fangames, but in games in general. To lighten things up, there are a variety of alternative gameplay segments such as riding a tank or flying a plane and more. Every stage feels unique, so you never get bored and always want to know what happens next. TD even managed to make swimming mechanics not a complete pain, believe it or not. The bosses are very cleverly designed, might appear insanely unfair and difficult at first, but once you figured them out you see that they have exactly the right balance. Exactly what a boss has to achieve. A "global" time limit per level is replacing the typical life system, so if you die you get reset to the previous checkpoint, but the time keeps counting down. And especially in combination with the bosses, this is something that some people might find annoying, because after failing at a boss for a couple of times, it's not rare that you have to play the same boss again with juuust not enough time to finish him off, resulting in a game over screen and you having to start the level over. However, this is only a minor complaint. While there might be room for improvement in some areas, the game still deserves a clear 10/10. Well done! |
Graphics 9 / 10 |
All graphics seem to be custom made or at least edited from ripped graphics. It feels familiar, yet fresh. No graphics ever clash. One point is deducted because there are games on MFGG with better graphics and it would be unfair to those. |
Sound 10 / 10 |
First of all: The music is amazing. The score consists of custom made remixes of various games - including Mario Kart and even Zelda music - exclusively for this game. That alone would warrant an instant 10/10 score. Now we also have the sound effects. Psycho Waluigi simply feels alive with them, no sound effect ever gets annoying. |
Replay 10 / 10 |
There are few fangames that I bother to save on my hard drive. This is one of them. Not only is the main story play-through as long or even longer than that of a commercial Mario game, no, there are also bonuses to unlock and if you are dedicated to getting all the golden crowns you will have a chance to come back to this game for a long time. |

Quote (Guinea's Review on , 7:27 PM) - Timeout = instant death Isn't that what happens when you run out of time in traditional Mario games? EDIT: Oh, I thought that was the normal time limit |
