The game still plays as horribly as it did when Mario was the protagonist.

sigh. seems like it's staying true to the hello tradition to ignore feedback.

Hello really likes to ignore feedback.

You know, this game still has many of the issues Prism has, and in its attempt to change level design style and add more features/gimmicks, it introduces some new ones. In addition, there are a few other outstanding minor bugs, some quality of life issues, and a few opportunities for cheesing the level design. However, there were specific core issues in Prism's gameplay that people pointed out that were improved or outright fixed in this game:

:Slopes, i.e. rotating platforms were massively improved, and you can not only stand on them without flying off, but they're not even frustrating when incorporated as elements in the level. (The walls they're often placed next to can still be problematic, though.)
:Enemy hitboxes no longer damage you over slight miscalculations.
:The player is heavier and physics are no longer "floaty", so as to make it feel more like the canon Mario platformers (a big gripe by many).
:The camera, although still somewhat awful and unintelligent, is much better about regulating its distance from the player, and centering the camera isn't instantaneous and disorienting, making it more usable in-game.
:Animation polish is massively improved.

I really do wonder what it's like to be so hated by a community that even when you SPECIFICALLY incorporate their feedback into your product, they continue to pretend you didn't, just because you didn't incorporate ALL of the desired changes in one go, or perhaps because they just want to spite the proliferation of your work.

For crying out loud, I just played this (newest patch v1.0.3.4). I mean, this game's kinda bad, but you guys are acting like it's a blasphemous affront to 3D Mario fangaming, and Hello needs to be struck by lightning or something.

Either the older versions were really, REALLY awful (I dodged a bullet), or you guys are taking the "bully-Hello" meme to the next level.

I will be honest with you this game seems to be an attempt at being as weird as possible and sometimes even a bit creepy kind of weird but the problem with this game is mostly physics related. I have played up until the Wart fight. When the game starts you realize Mario cannot run and his jumps are very heavy but the real problem I think comes from the first boss. The Giant Ninji seems to be very random. Sometimes he jumps high, sometimes he jumps low, sometimes he just charges and even sometimes he just gets stuck in the corner. It was at this point I realized something was wrong because after losing to the Ninji rather then starting at the boss you have to slog through the level leading up to the boss then watch the cutscene again before the boss which is long. Same thing happened with Wart that just made me stop playing the game. I suggest either updating the game to either A. start from the boss that you are on or B. give the option to skip cutscenes after viewing them. Also the Ninji should have a pattern because it seems hitting him seems to mess up his pattern and makes the fight harder then it's supposed to be.

I dunno what you're going on about with the Ninji. Of course the movements are randomized; however, his jump trajectories are predictable, and he jumps fairly high, so Mario can move quickly enough to avoid him.

I do agree with you on the Wart fight, however. He clearly does get faster as you go, and near the end of the fight, it seems there are some cases where it's literally impossible to dodge his attacks, because he follows closely enough behind his fireballs that you can't jump between him and his fireballs AND jump out of the way without getting hit, but he's not so close that you can jump clear over both him and the fireballs.

Apologies if the rest of it was so competent

My man, that's literally nothing to apologize about. 'Twas a fun play. Good game!

Thanks! Yeah, I was not able to fix that at all. No amount of fail safes between the Para-Troopas would prevent them from randomly doing that, and I think it's just an issue with Clickteam Fusion's collision handling at this point. That's (primarily) why you have infinite lives: it was the best solution I could come up with.

I'm really happy you enjoyed it :)

Wait...that was accidental? I wrote my review under the impression that it was purposeful, so as to add to the surrealism. That mechanic was surprisingly frustrating.

How odd. Guess I need to tone back my benefit of the doubt a bit in future reviews.

Um...yep.

First 2 levels were good, the 1st being the best.

Why the 1st?

THAT TOMAS SONG

Couldn't have said it better.

Point 2:

the part with the long legs was actually pretty funny though.

I would have said something more like, "LOL, Luigi's legs!!1!one!eleven!"

Point 3:

The physics and game design were so awful that the level actually parodied its own awfulness by obviously making you glitch to complete it. That is comic gold.

Just remember, no glitch is too small when fixed in the name of the players.

In this game specifically, I think it might be beneficial to get to the core of even minor glitches (and NOT do workarounds), and you might solve other glitches in the process.

BTW, wrote review.

Heh, they edited "danmaku" to "bullet hell" in the final words. It's nice to see someone else recognizes that genre well enough to translate it.

Or the mods just did a quick Google search.

Either way, it was a good decision. I'm sure 90% of Mario players wouldn't recognize the Japanese wording anyway.

Wut.

I wanna give this game a horrible review, but because of the ban on abnormal scores, reviewing this could only RAISE its score.

CONSTRUCTive feedback follows: please CONSTRUCT something original; even if it's a "clone", don't just throw a few sprites and sounds into it and call it a Mario game. Try to add something that would appeal to the audience of the site, namely Mario fans and gamers who want to see the Mario Universe through a different lens: the lens of a fangame—not simply waste their time.

If simple "clones" were still acceptable on this site, there'd be a ton more games based on the Hello engine. However there's been a big push not to just submit clones of engines or other games. Hello's engine has been receiving the brunt of that, most of its more recent games averaging between 2/10 and 4/10, if they even make it onto the site.

I understand that you've been gone for a while and haven't seen this whole ordeal, but that doesn't change the fact that the community's expectations have been evolving in order to better the quality of fangames on this site.

Also, I clicked "Flappy Bird Clone" not wanting to "waste time", but because the title implied a game that should not be wasting server space here in the first place. I was expecting a simple clone that did not introduce anything new to the game aside from a few sprites and sounds, and nothing original. I played the game hoping that I was just judging a book by its cover, but that unfortunately wasn't the case.

If you are uncomfortable with the community saying bad things about weak games, you should consider lurking again, until you better understand their expectations.

There simply isn't enough here for me to provide more specific feedback. I'm not going to just throw ideas for basic game design out there; this is your game, no one else's.

EDIT: Adding review. Although I can't think of anything that would make this a GOOD game without stepping on your creative domain, places where you have much room for improvement are listed there.

I love how people are griping about all the *blood* in this game when the title of the game is *Blood*bath, and after the author specifically stated that the core difference between this and Mario: The Last Castle was the *blood* stain engine.

The ridiculous flak this game has received for its blood effects, as well as a certain downvote review with respect to this, misleads people browsing through the games list and the games' comments into thinking that the game just flat out sucks...which in many ways it does, but not because it has blood effects, which are clearly intended for a certain audience.

For reasons why the game does and doesn't suck, see my review.
