General Commentary and Game Overview
Mario VS The Koopas is your less-than-average Mario platformer, with worse controls and physics. The story is completely simple; Bowser's trying to take over the Mushroom Kingdom for the millionth time. How does he attempt to do this? By making Kamek rip up one certain area in the entire kingdom into the sky and leaving the rest of the kingdom be. Maybe more of the kingdom gets ripped off and lifted later in the game, but I wouldn't know because I honestly couldn't stay awake after playing two levels in World 2.

Pros -The graphics look pretty nice; everything is custom-made with no editing of pre-existing graphics involved. However, a lot of animations could use some major adjustments.

Cons -Mario's controls are terrible; when you jump, he jumps like he would in any other game, but when he reaches the supposed top of the jump, he decides to float upward a bit more, very slowly. As for all his other moves, they can be pretty slow. I can't really explain it, but controlling Mario in this game just does not feel right at all.

-There are a LOT of poorly-programmed physics, such as knocking an enemy off a block. When bumped, the enemy decides to spin around in circles as if he's riding a deflating balloon....in circles, while zipping downward to its demise.

-Another example of poor physics would have to be the jumping fish (I say "fish" because they don't really look much like Cheep-Cheeps when jumping out of the water). Each fish slowly "swims" its way upward at a 45 degree angle, then nosedives like a bullet (a real-life bullet, not a Bullet Bill) back into the water. It's hard to tell when the fish will nosedive, and when it does, it moves way too fast to give you any time to react.

There are many other cons, but to list them all would take a while and I honestly couldn't be interested to bother with it.

Impressions
Gameplay
5 / 10
Not that great. The controls and player physics are sub-par.

Graphics
8 / 10
The game does look nice; all the graphics are completely custom, and they're all stylized with no clashing whatsoever. But there are a lot of animations that desperately need fixing.

Sound
4 / 10
The sound effects are fine, but the music is a mixture of MIDI and MP3 tracks, something which should NEVER happen in a game. Some of the MIDIs aren't sequenced properly (there are a few notes here and there that are miswritten), and some of the songs (both MP3 and MIDI) don't loop properly (the best example off the top of my head would be the Barrel Volcano MIDI from Super Mario RPG).

Replay
1 / 10
In all honesty, this game doesn't really interest me enough to replay it.

Final Words
4 / 10
I'm sorry, guys, but this game just isn't really that great to me. The controls are terrible, there are a lot of animations that need fixing, the physics are sub-par, and the music is a mixture of MIDI and MP3 files, which should NEVER happen in a game. Really, the only good thing about the game are the graphics. How do so many people love this game and despise the Hello Engine, which has WAY better physics and controls?

What? The original MvsTK seems fine to me. It got high reviews, and now you disputed it? Sorry for going mad at you, though.
Anyway, the MIDI vs. MP3 issue needs to be fixed. That's gonna be unnatural seeing that Castor accidentally mixed MIDIs and MP3s together.

I never played the original Mario vs The Koopas, but seeing as this is a remake, I'm assuming the original was worse (you know, compared to this one). I'm sure the original was great at the time, but even this remake just doesn't work for me. These are all just my honest opinions, though; more power to you if you like the original.

The first MvsK is actually a different game. It's still a Mario platformer with the same tired excuse plot, but it's unfair to say this is a remake of the original.

Oh. Well, in that case, the title seems a bit misleading, doesn't it? I mean, usually when I see "remix" in a game title I think "remake" or "enhancement" (with the exception of the NES Remix series). Maybe I'm just assuming wrong.

Sometimes "remix" is another way of saying "2."
Notice he said, "my second game about Mario's struggle with the koopas" in the description.

Oh, that's true. Either way, I'm not a huge fan of it myself, and I'm sure that since it's his second go, it's somehow better than the original, which I most likely ALSO wouldn't be a huge fan of.
